Thanks for the link. Think I really need to figure out why they pecked her. My girls aren't crowded at all. They're actually quite over priveleged They have a very large coop and free run of my backyard which is 1/3 of an acre. They get plenty of extra treats, too, many of which are high in...
Oh and yes, to answer about the skin being cut open, it is. There's no skin left in the wounded area at all. I can't tell if it's just a large laceration that has split wide open or if the skin is actually torn off and missing. Feel bad poking and prodding at it too much, tho, and frankly...
So many different opinions, yes. I appreciate all the input, so thank you to everyone.
Right now I'm keeping the wound covered in an antibiotic cream. I do have her here inside with us, away from the rest of the girls. I have electrolytes in her water, and have been offering her plain greek...
Ok, I just cleaned it with diluted iodine and put some neosporin cream on it. She's eating and drinking, and my fingers are crossed. I'll post some pictures as she hopefully heals.
Thank you. I'll try that. I have her all set up in a dog cage inside. Hope she won't be too lonely, but I know I can't put her around any of the others until she's healed. Poor Twinkie.
Yeah, I was afraid of that. They have a huge coop and free run of my yard, but they must have singled her out from the other little ones and cornered her somehow. Ugh. I'll skip the bluekote. Wondering if I should get some baytril for her? I'm worried about it being able to close up and...
My daughter just found our little BO behind the feeder with this huge wound on her head. I'm not sure how it happened. Looks a bit severe to be from my big girls pecking her, but I suppose it's possible. Anyway, my main concern now is what to do. I've brought her inside and cleaned it up a...
I already posted this question in "breeds, genetics and showing" with no response, so am trying again here. I'm still not sure if this is the right forum, but I'd so love some feedback!
So, I'm wanting to add one more girl to my flock, and I keep going back and forth between getting either a...

So, I'm wanting to add one more girl to my flock, and I keep going back and forth between getting either a Buff Orpington or a standard Buff Cochin. I'd love to have both, but my flock is nearly filled up. AND...
Thank you. I'm relieved to hear that's what it looks like as opposed to something more serious. I checked for mites and there aren't any. Gonna load it up with blue-kote and see what happens...
I have a 5 week old crested polish. She's Merrick's vaccinated and seems healthy as can be. Today I noticed this weird spot on the back of her neck. At first I thought it was some sort of growth or start of an abscess, but it doesn't appear to be either. The skin seems thick and/or swollen...
I have 4 bantam cochins, all 5 1/2 weeks old. I have my guesses as to which are boys and girls, but would love some fresh opinions. I had one that was an obvious roo at 3 weeks. Very large and red comb and wattles. These 4 are all so much more subtle than he was. I'd really like to know...
Let's see...
I've had:
Pumpkin---partridge silkie
Helga---barred rock. (one of my faves, still really miss her)
Hildegard---strange white feather legged EE mongrel that still laid green eggs
Violet--white Silkie
FrouFrou--white crested black polish
Opal-black Americauna
Olive---Barnevelder
I...
Too young to tell, really. But if I had to place my bet now I'd say pullet based on how much she's feathered out. But, it's only 5 day's, so, spotty at best...
