you might want to check with someone about roosts. i think they like to roost on something they can cling on to, not a flat surface, if that's what i'm seeing in your pic.
I love the design and simplicity. The question I have is how could I adapt this design for the cold northern Iowa winters. We usually get at least 24 inches of snow. That would bury a good portion of the coop. Ideas and suggestions welcome!
I bought a catch and release mouse trap as I am scared of the potential of any other of my animals eating poison. I've caught 7 mice so far in the coop. My question is how far away from the coop should I release the little boogers? Obviously I don't want them to come back to the coop, but I...
I have been giving the Merrick's Poultry Electrolyte and Microbials for my chickens, especially when we have a hot spell. I have kittens who have diarrhea and one thing I read is to give them yogurt which have the microbials in it. Will the Merrick's work. Will it hurt my kittens? Thanks
sounds like her crop is blocked. she may keep drinking water thinking it will unblock it. try searching for blocked crop and see what you might do. good luck.
thanks scarletbaby. i am starting oxytetracycline in the water for all girls. her eyes aren't swollen luckily. i wiped the bubbles from her eyes & they haven't come back. she's shaking her head though, so i'm sure there's more 'stuff' in there. i appreciate your info.
i can't find an answer for my chickens' bubbly eyes. both have bubbles in the lower corners. no other symptoms. i'm getting ready to go to town & buy antibiotics. looks like tylan or terramycin? i'd like to treat in water for all 12 chickens. any info/links would be great!
I just had a beautiful americana die in my arms. She was about 3 years old. The only symptoms started about 3 days ago. They were lethargic-but not too much, she'd still go out and graze. I was able to pick her up yesterday & looked her over. Her crop was airy with a few seeds I could feel. I...
i have rehabed sparrows before. i used canned cat food. it's moist so you don't have to worry about water for a day or two until you can get some professional advise. i agree to keep it in a quiet place, warm, and if you think it's a baby, you'll need to force feed it. if it's a nite feeder...
are you sure the others are pecking the tailfeathers? could be her. check for mites. if her skin is showing and pink-they may be pecking at that. try blu kote. i've used vicks on mine & they don't like that. sounds like you're satisfying their need to peck at food and such. try the search for...
I could really use some advice from anyone who knows what I'm dealing with. I am getting an antibiotic Oxy-something I'll put in her water. I soaked her bottom and trimmed the feathers. Poo wasn't that stinky. There is a round area below her vent about the size of a orange slice. The skin feels...
Well, she made it through the nite. Still has all the same symptoms. Is the black from dying skin or what? not sure how to proceed with treatment. Please advise.
I'm looking through a flyer from my local farm supply store and see a bag of Kandy Kid Dried Molasses by Stockade. I googled Stockade and it explains its product as a soy granule sprayed with molasses and it stimulates appetites and enhances growth and productivity of livestock. The reason I'm...
I have a 5 year old layer whose first symptoms I saw were her walking gingerly like she hurt her hips. Now she's got poopy feathers. The poop is brown-I don't see any blood. It smells but not tremendously bad. I just examined her and found the skin on her bottom is black and hard. It's about a 2...
