Thanks - I KNOW the one on the left, with the spangles is a speckled sussex. She tells me that every second of every day! Thanks - then maybe it's the other one that is a mystery...
She had it over the summer, the black spot wasn't big - I sprayed with blu vote a few times because I thought it was from picking. I didn't notice it for a few months and now, there it is again. It is soft, below the vent. Nothing hard. I tried to draw out fluid and nothing came out, could...
She's almost year. We had bought cuckoo marans, barnevelders, and speckled sussex. Not sure what this one is... Thanks for playing! The brown / copper with the lacing.
That's her head.
A chicken, we now call her Boo Boo Blue - is being seriously pecked by three other hens. We have six hens, plus some pullets we bought in the spring. They are free range during the day and in the coop at night. Plenty of room. Cam home one day, about a month ago- and her head and comb were...
Went to let the chickens out into their run and there was a dead 7 mos. old speckled sussex in the coop. Upon initial examination she looks fine. They free range in the afternoon until they put themselves up. I know she was fine last night around 8 p.m. when I shut the doors. They have all...
I read a bunch of past posts and became even more confused. If someone would help clarify, pretty please!!! If we decide not to go with lights, and egg production decreases too much, I can add a light at a later time and after a few days, egg production will come back up? If I add a light it...
Portagegirl, I didn't see your reply. That's actually a great idea - to put it over towards the woods more and let them feast. I'm sure worms deliver fluids...
Well look-y there. You can lead a chicken to water, AND make it drink. I brought a fresh ice cold waterer to where they were laying and they ran over to drink. Nice, too lazy and hot to drink water. So I guess technically I didn't lead them to water but I did get them to drink.
Seriously...
Our chooks are free range but they are panting. I've brought the rabbits in because they were in a bad way. I have baby chicks I'm brooding now too. The baby chicks have a fan with ice blocks in front of it. A couple are panting, a couple aren't.
If I set up a mister, will the free range...
assuming it is newcastle or ib, would the vax from jeffers take care of it, if its in an active state. I am assuming if it is either of these that they contracted it from wild birds? I have had them since they were day olds. Or two days old.
A few weeks ago this bird had a seriously swollen eye. Treated with terramycin ointment and then upped to tylan 50. Then Bob got it last week, wasn't very responsive to the tylan. But it didn't get worse.. No discharge, no sneezing, no other symptoms. Good mood. Good appetite, etc. Now...
It sounds like there might be another problem going on, but my young chicks - when I went and checked on them - one died with (course size) shavings in his mouth. On the reco. of a young man who raises hundreds of chicks every year - he said straw or hay on top of newspaper. I gather a lot of...
Ack! What to do? Her eye is very swollen. There was a little crusty thing that I flecked off, but it's not weeping or anything. She is in fine spirits, and the nictitating membrane is fine. The swollen area is a touch red, I'm thinking a bit infected. Any thoughts? Can I use opthalmic...
I volunteered to chaperone a 4h fur and feathers display. I didn't realize that I was offering to bring some chickens. they are probably 12 or 13 weeks. I am nervous. If I bring a pair (I don't want to bring a lonely one) - will I have to quarantine them? And will the others readily accept...
According to my 4H leader, it's 5 degrees for every week. So at five weeks temps would need to be at 70. According to that, I would be using a heat lamp at night still. I'm in NJ too. Mine are 7 weeks and with temps dipping into the 30's still, I've had a heat lamp on at night, but they've...
Um, what do you mean responsive? One they dote on? Move away for? Perk up their tales? Sit in a corner, gossip and giggle over? Lay with? I know there are a few of the boys that always seem to have girls snuggling with them at night.
