I have all the birds listed in my profile (except the cockatoo) together. They have a very large flight pen but they roost together and I have never had any issues with them. I have even allowed the pigeons and Seramas to hatch out young with out any problem.
When I was younger there were so many ring neck pheasants in the north east primarly Pennsylvania that you saw them every where you went. Now there is none. Does anyone know what happened to them. I am thinking of raising some but want to know why the wild ones disappeared first. I also noticed...
I had two broody Seramas sharing a nest and apparently two other laying in the same nest. I generally do not bother them at all when they are sitting. Yesterday the hens got off the nest and had 6 fluffy butts so I took the rest of the eggs out and candled them. By the way there was about 25...
There are a lot of poultry houses in our area ( like Perdue) and they have been using nipple drinkers for a while now and do not seem to have any problems with them on a large scale operation. I use one in my one pen and the chickens do not seem to have any problems, but if you give them the...
I was raised in SE PA and we always had pheasants everywhere but they seem to have vanished does anyone no why. Also I now live on the Eastern Shore on MD where ther are no pheasants but it sounds like the right habitat for them. It is marshy and wooded with ditches running through all the farm...
Hi all,
I have been away for awhile because my wife took sick with cancer and past away in June. I usually let my hens do all the hatching, but I thought my grand children might enjoy watching some chicks hatch. So I bought one of those little 19.99 incubators that comes with quail eggs and a...
My Serama was suppose to hatch this coming Sunday, but when I checked her last night she had left the nest and had two little fuzzy butts following her around. Tried to get pictures but she kept getting between me and the chicks.
I had my first 2 broodies and left them both in with the flock. Between the 2 they hacth 8 and the others did bother them. the little ones will be 3 weeks tomorrow and the one hen has four more eggs already.
I got my Seramas for a hobby and do not intend to sell them. The Serama is a pet chicken or a show bird and with the economy the way it is a lot of people are looking for chickens they can use. Maybe if there were more shows around the country it would be worth raising birds strictly for show...
I have a hen that hatched 5 little ones last week and I knew I had another nest with 3 eggs that I figured was from another hen. Yesterday the hen with babies started to set on that nest which now has 4 eggs, she also has her chicks under her. has anyone ever had a hen sit on a second nest...
Well my one Serama hatched five eggs Monday. It was her first hatch and mine. I trie dthe incubator method with no success, so I decided to let nature take over. Worked great I even let her stay in with the rest of the flock and had no problems. I had one egg that pipped but she left it, when I...
2 of my Seramas are finally sitting. The one is sitting on 12 eggs from all four of my hens and the other I seperated and she is sitting on six of her own. It has been about a week now I hope they are able to hatch some little ones. The 12 I had in the incubator did not hatch after 28 days I...
