Catwalk, do any of their parents carry cocopop gene??? They look similar to some of my cocopop cockerel at that age.....btw, both cockerels looking goo.

Cocoa Pop gene??? To be frank, it's not a real color gene. It's pumpkin, but that may be irrelavent at this point. But I do agree that they are looking quite like a pumpkin or what seems like most are calling cocoapop in development at this stage.

THe hens don't get worn out so fast this way. Roosters of many breeds really like to mate often and it can just exhaust a hen or totally wear feathers off of the hen after awhile.
I use 2-3 hens to give the hens a better life in my eyes. The rooster also usually appreciates having a choice of 2-4 ladies. That way usually one that is willing to put up with mating more frequently.

Ruthless, Thank you for that wonderful explination on the question posted. It shows you have a heart of gold!

Yes those Roos can get a tad too pushy with the girls. I use a squirt bottle if I catch my one roo getting carried away. He does the sneak up and "BONZAII" aproach---naughty boy.

Hi i hatched out two Serama chicks. They are 6 days old. They are being raised with Mama in the chicken coop in a separte broody box. I have a concern on one. It is so tiny its having a hard time walking I think because of its size. I have been feeding them med chick starter grinded up. I go check every few hrs and all it wants to do is sit under mama when it does come out it kind just cherps and sits there I hold it and it closes it eyes. Do you think its sick????? They other one is running around pecking and eating. My question is is there anything special I can do to perk it up vitamins special food Thank you

You are righ tHigh Roost Ranch, its just me use to the term cocopop instead of pumpkin.

This is an old picture of my laced cocopop silver duckwing at 4 1/2 months old.

i thought serama people call chocolates cocopops... the OG captain cocopop was dun laced chocolate with gold and mahogany genes... those pumpkins are just chocolate with gold/buff neck/hackle feathers... IMO, pumpkin is just just as bad as cocopop... LOL... but i to clear stuff up, they are trying to breed the cocopop color/pattern true... so pretty soon it will be a real known term...

edit: too bad the new cocopop thread was locked because of the other epic thread... we really need a legit thread to clear up the confusion and to help us all understand how to get them to produce true...

Gumbii, this is an European written standard of the cocopop variety I want to work with on my project, I will be using this as my guide line for my breeding program.

Bronze tailed Silver neck double laced:

Rooster: head, hackle and saddle: visible part light cream coloured to almost white, feather basis light brown. Shoulders and back shing orange red. Primaries matt bronze brown with a brown outer edge. Seconaries with red brown passing into cream outer vanes (wing triangle is two coloured redbrown/cream), inner vane matt bronze brown. Breast, wing coverts, wing band, abdomen and lower thighs light chestnut brown with a fine blackish lacing around the feather edge. On the inner side of this lace a distinct cream coloured inner lace. Main tail feathers very dark matt brown with almost invisible light chestnut brown to the basis. Sickles shining bronze brown, by-sickles slightly peppered and strong shining. Down: brownish grey.
Legs: yellow.
Severe faults: a blurred lacing on the rooster, a too broad creme coloured inner lace by which the breast is not evenly three coloured, strong yellow or patchy ornamental feathers, missing shine; hen: a very patchy ground colour, missing paled edging around the feathers.

This boy of my is very close to the standard describtion above.

Hen: head and hackle wheaten coloured with a silverish lacing and in lower hackle a matt brown shaft stripe. Primaries wheaten coloured with matt brown inner vane. Back, wing coverts, saddle and tail coverts wheaten coloured with a light feather edge. The inner part of these feathers have more or less distinct grey brown peppering. Breast, abdomen and lower thighs light wheaten coloured with a pale feather edge and pale feather quill. Tail grey brown, the upper main tail feathers in colour matching the tail coverts. Down: greyish.
Legs: yellow.
Severe faults: very patchy ground colour, missing pale lacing.

Currently I don't have any thing close to the above describtion of the hen but I have seen some from Gradys and Jerrys. Hopefully my flock will produce something close to it soon or I will have to get some from Jerry or Grady. I prefer to have a home grown cuz I feel life is meaningless without a challenge or two.

I agreed, I was thinking of taking close up pics of all my chicks to post in it every month as they grow.

You can make up any name you want, as long as its named after a cereal, I think.
