How many here are actual backyarders vs. Farmers?

We're sort of on the fence. We have 11 acres on what used to be our own 950 acre farm. We sold the place about 12 years ago and missed it so much that we purchased an 11 acre corner of it to spend our retirement years. It's way out in a very rural area surrounded by farms. Our neighbor on the right is 2 miles down the road and to the left about 3/4 mile away. So even though we're backyarders nowadays we're really farmers in farm country. I have four 1/2 acre gardens in opposite ends of the property to reduce the possibility of cross pollination of our heirloom plants. Our chickens number between 15 and 20 but we never really count them. We usually have 2 to 4 goats (sometimes none). And depending on our 4H grandchildren we will have on occasion as many as 6 pigs, or 6 cows, or 6 sheep. It's a dagone zoo out there sometimes. But it's lots of fun having the kids around most of the time.

Yup, that's a farm in my book.

Sounds really nice!

We're Backyarders with a mix of 6 layers- enough to provide us and a few friends and family with eggs. Plus the enjoyment and entertainment that the girls give us.

I'd consider myself a farmer. We're on 10 acres, have 50+ chickens, 6 Mucovey ducks, 16 turkeys, 2 pigs, 1 calf, 25 goats, 4 dogs and 4 cats.

I'm a farmer and a backyarder.... My husband's family has had a farm for ... well since before statehood, but I'm a city girl just getting her feet wet.
The family has black angus cattle and I've got my chickens. Gotta say, my chickens are a lot more fun and a lot cuter!

I was born to be a farmer, but I am stuck in the city. I have a big lot with 22 chickens( that would make 12 of them illegals), 1 duck, 2 labs, a garden, grapevines, blueberry bushes and pear trees. Looking for 5 acres in the country!
