    WTB-White leghorn pullet

    I know that one of the feed stores in Asheboro NC was selling some leghorn chicks a few weeks ago, but thats it....I have 2 that are 4 weeks old, but I don't know if I could part with them....

    waste disposal

    I would try a compost pile too...you could also try planting a garden and using it as a fertiziler as an added incentive to the compost pile. That way it looks like you have thought everything out, so you just don't have one big pile of compost!

    I used to be an emergency vet tech for several years, but then decided that maybe I should use my Psych degree on people (which was the original goal) instead of animals...Although I think I used it a lot because some people are really crazy when it comes to their pets: we were held at gunpoint...

    Wow, what a steal! The building looks really roomy, and possibly bigger that a 10x10.... I would buy that in a heartbeat knowing what I know now. Thanks to the governments stimulus check, they just built me a coop!!

    Incessant Chirping!

    Mine have different chirps....theres the hungry, thirsty, bored, scared, hungry, lonely, hungry, i-think-i-can-fly-but-i'm-not-sure, and did I mention hungry?!? Trust me, you will learn which ones mean which!!

    Unfortunately...I got one from my feed store that had already been debeaked ...I felt really bad for her, so I got her, and she is doing really well.

    Chicks got the ride of their life....

    Tell me about it. Give me a hurricane any day. I grew up on the Outer Banks, NC, so they are really not that big of a deal for me. But tornadoes?!?? No thank you. We didn't get hit, but we were close enough for me, and I hope I don't ever have to deal with that ever again!

    Why I should avoid the Feed Store... (Updated with pics!)

    I feel your pain... Last time I went to the feed store, I came home with 8 more chicks and 1 duckling....It's so hard, because I absolutely HAVE to go to buy food. What ever will we do??

    Congrats!! Now you will see how truly addicting they are...I was in denial at first, but now I am beginning to understand that owning chickens is like having potato chips, or dogs, or horses, etc...you can NEVER have just one!

    Brooder light caught on fire!

    It was quite terrifying to say the least, not to mention all the soot I had to scrub off the walls for hours on end. The house even smelled like and ashtray for months :o....But all is well now, and lesson learned!

    Tonight I woke up around 9pm and turned on the tv, and lo and behold the emergency weather broadcast was on.....We had major storms around my house, with tornados touching down and all a few counties over. We had about 10 minutes of really severe weather to the point of my little girls...

    eyes swollen shut 2 week old chick

    A really good thing to use is sterile eye flush...NOT contact lense solution though. You can usually find it at a drug store, just make sure you stay away from the contact solution because it can cause problems. You can use a damp cloth and try and soak the crusties away....good luck!

    I have issues...

    I think I am going to give my girls cable in their coop....I thinks it's only fair since they get to watch tv in the living room right now ....It is a horrible disease, but really fun though!!

    Wow! What a deal! Craigslist is really a great place to find them homes, but sometimes you have to be careful...I have dealt with a few strange people from craiglist.
