    Late hatch failure

I typically keep the humidity ~40%. I'll be honest I don't weigh or candle eggs religiously. I generally mark the air cell at time of incubation and candle a few as we go. As long as their air cells look about right I call it good. Since I'm incubating my own eggs I don't get quite as precise...

    Late hatch failure

Hello all. I have been hatching eggs for about a year. This is my fourth batch. So I've done it but I wouldn't say I am well seasoned by any means. My prior hatches have all gone very well, especially considering my first were shipped eggs. I have a brinsea octo eco 20. Temp and humidity are all...

    Cream legbar/welsummer auto-sex?

Cool beans. I guess I'll have to do it the old fashioned way and wait. Thanks all.

    Cream legbar/welsummer auto-sex?

So what you are saying s that because I bred roo legbar to hen welsummer my hens will only have one autosex gene and therefore it won't be expressed? Does that then mean that the males will carry both genes and will therefore be expressed? If so then I will essentially still be able to tell...

    Cream legbar/welsummer auto-sex?

I'm not sure I follow you as to the why. I though they were both autosexing chickens, but to me it seems to me my cream legbars chicks have had more definite feathering than my welsummers. If what you say is true I'm hosed as my welsummer Roos died this winter.

    Cream legbar/welsummer auto-sex?

Hello all. I decided to try my hand at an olive egger. So I am hatching out cream legbar roo vs welsummer hen. My question is, will I be able to autosex the chick as I would a cream legbar? I know welsummers are also able to be sexed at hatch but wasn't sure if a mix would change things.

    Double Yolk

Ya I wasn't terribly worried about it. More curious than anything as I hadn't seen that before. My wife enjoys it as she eats two eggs for breakfast and she just has to use one lol.

    Double Yolk

So last fall I raised some buff orp/cream legbar mutts. They are just starting to lay between end of January to now. We have had an extraordinary amount of double yolk eggs. Of the green eggs we have been gathering about 25% have been double yoke. I have never even had one in two years of...

I crossed a cream legbar with a ----- and this is what I got

Some of my buff orp and cream legbar crosses look like crested buff orpingtons you can see some darker feathers in the tail and wings but it's not a ton. If I were to cross one of these back to my buff orps would the crest stay?

    Cream Legbar Roosters

I'll try to post a few more pictures first here and go in the other thread if needed. A picture of each individual and a couple with all four in one shot.

    Cream Legbar Roosters

Hello all. I posted a topic in the breeding, genetics, exhibition section but there doesn't appear to be much activity there as I got no response. So I will try again here hoping for the best. I have four cream legal roosters that I hatched this spring. I am not sure which to select for...

I crossed a cream legbar with a ----- and this is what I got

I thought I was hatching buff orpingtons but it turns out my cream legbars roosters that I hatched this spring have fully matured. The bigger ones are three weeks older than the others. The older ones are a lot lighter than the younger ones. I initially thought they were all buff orp...

    Cream Legbar

Took forever but I got it done. All different roosters. Sorry about the poor quality. You know how chickens like pictures. Either way I think you can see the difference between the three and lighter one. Edit sorry for double post. Not sure what happened.

    Cream Legbar

Hello all. Forgive me of my ignorance. I've tried reading the standard for cream legbar but I'm just not educated enough with the lingo etc to make this call. I hatched some cream legbars this spring and am looking to breed them. I may sell some on the side and wish to have the right coloring if...

    Hover/Ohio Brooder

I always welcome constructive criticism. People may see something that I am blind to. I had thought about some sort of cover for the light. Haven't decided what yet. I don't think ventilation is ever much of a concern from what I have read. Mine however isn't as tight as others due to the...

    Hover/Ohio Brooder

Well my hover is pretty much built. I just need to finish the wiring but that won't take to long. As you can see I used an old door for a kitchen cupboard. So I can easily open and inspect. I also have an adjustable bottom on the other side. It's ugly but it'll get the job done if needed.

Welsummer Chick - Male or Female??

Yup. The males and females look quite different with both breeds, although I have one welsummer chick that has femal coloring and I wonder if it's really a male. Anyways the females have the chipmunk coloring, eyeliner, and the black v on their head. Males are just all around lighter. As I...

    Adolescent Chick Feeder

Just looking to see if anybody has a neat feeder that they use. I have 14 chicks. They are two weeks old. I am using the metal feeders that you screw jars into. The kind you can get at any fleet store. I have large hopper feeders for my full grown chickens. I am now having to fill my three...
