Thanks. Sultans are technically standard sized, but they are slightly smaller than most other standard breeds. They lay smaller eggs, too.
Also, the other sultan hatched, so she has four little babies under her.
I've been busy for a while and unable to really do much on recently, but I have time now with a few updates. First off, we moved the four goslings outside as well as most of the younger chicks. There are still some in the house, but most of them are outside, and I've discovered that I have three...
Ended up getting nine grey call duck eggs yesterday and put them in the incubator today along with some cochin and d'uccle eggs. Hopefully in around four weeks, I'll have some ducklings.
I know. The problem is my cochins are laying, and I am really tempted to hatch some even though I don't really need to(I could always put them in when I put the ducks in without too many complications though<pondering while stroking chin>) Of course, I'm letting one of my cochins sit on some...
All four of my goslings have hatched. I had the two and on Sunday, another one hatched while away with family for Easter. Then, yesterday, the last one hatched. Now I'm going to clean out the incubator and hopefully hatch some call ducks and probably quit hatching for a while(we'll see how well...
My laptop died Friday morning, so haven't been on for a while, but it's working now. A couple of days ago, we took the older chicks outside. Also, one of my black cochin pullets is sitting, so I gave her some d'uccle eggs and cochin eggs from my older trio. I'm also deciding all the chickens I'm...
Technically, it's not a APA variety, but I rather like it. The people who first sold us that color called them black-bibbed calls.
Thanks about the cochins.:) I've been working on the quality, but it's really hard to find anyone with good cochins. Unfortunately the hens are probably hatchery...
Yeah, the thread seemed to be teetering off for a little while, but it's kind of become a March/April hatch along for those who aren't doing the easter one.:D I figure a new one will be made for May though.
Congratulations on the chicks. Sorry about the one that died, but at least the other one...
I don't let mine out to free range anymore. I used to a long time ago when they would follow my goose around, but hawks kept getting them. Sometimes I'll put them in an outside cage during the day, but they always get put away at night. Supervision when they're outside is key as well as keeping...
Lucky for me, my grandmother has calls which she allows me to hatch if I want for free, though I do know they can be expensive. I don't think hers are show quality, but I don't really mind. I will warn you, though, if you decide to get calls: they are very noisy, especially the females and they...
I have a ton of d'uccles who love to perch when able. I've also had cochins(large and bantam) who perch on roosts, so I think it may be a chicken's preference rather than ability that affects whether she perches or not. I do have sultans who will not perch, but I believe that is more in...
Just some pictures from yesterday(Warning-Picture heavy)
