Flock/Life Journey's 2019

I've been busy for a while and unable to really do much on recently, but I have time now with a few updates. First off, we moved the four goslings outside as well as most of the younger chicks. There are still some in the house, but most of them are outside, and I've discovered that I have three cemani crosses that are completely black at the moment. I'll probably get rid of most of the others.
My gander has been pretty aggressive because it's that time of year, but he's also taken to attacking the free-ranging chickens, so I'm just going to leave the three geese penned in since the oldest goose wants to hatch eggs anyways, and I'm going to let her try.
Then for the most exciting news!
About three weeks ago, we noticed my cochin pullets trying to nest. They were only hatched in September, so I figured that they were probably not going to actually sit for 21 days and hatch anything, especially since my mottled one was sitting first and stopped. However, we put four eggs under her, two porcelain d'uccles and two sultans. No one expected her to hatch anything or we would have put more under her.(we had to keep removing the extra cochin eggs that were still being laid so that none of those would hatch)
Well, yesterday, I went out to check for any extra eggs only to see a little poofy white head looking at me from under her. The two d'uccles and a sultan had hatched!!:wee:celebrate:love:ya
There is still another sultan egg under her, but it may yet hatch. I'm so excited because I've never had a broody hatch chicks before. I always put them in the incubator to hatch, so this is a new and exciting experience!(I'll have to post some pictures later when she's not smothering them:D)

Morning folks :frow

Oh that’s funny! But at least he was Cajun... I CANNOT make a roux to save my life! Burn, burn, burn
The trick to not burn the roux is to add the cold trinity just when it's getting ready to burn.

Good morning/evening all,
More standardized testing, this time in math. :th Luckily it's last year's math (I'm a grade ahead in math) but at the same time, I probably forgot most of it.
Ellie you'll do great!:hugs

Thanks! I thought so too... but oh well... I do think there are some roos.. at least one for sure.. I’ll have to try and get some pics of them close up. It’s much harder when they have a mama!
So glad you are done with the move! How is the new place.. I sorta forgot about you moving and wondered where you were!?
Thanks, I'm glad we are done with moving too! I don't know why it stresses me out so much when I've moved every 1-2 years since I was 10 months old. I like our home but I noticed something yesterday which spooked me a bit but wouldn't have if it weren't for my history of it..so when I was in kindergarten or m aybe 1st grade there was this boy who for some reason would try to scare me by saying the trees that had eyes would one night pull me down and kill me. He kept doing that til I pulled his ear and we both got in trouble. Then I learned his dad died from a shark bite so I might've forgiven him. But anyways for years and years when I would see those trees with the "eyes" I would look away because I was scared of them. Imagine my reaction when I watched the movie "Sleepy Hollow"- there's a tree with skulls at the bottom in it.

So yesterday I look out the window and see this...

The same type of tree! I found out it is called a Quaking Aspen.

Well, the middles had chosen to sleep on an outside roost.. but it’s inside my run which is completely covered and secure... so they would be fine there but I’d rather them all sleep inside the coop.. so I picked them up and placed them onto the top roost. They seems very pleased about this and scooted in as close as Rosemary would allow.. :celebrateView attachment 1766115
Since you and Bob were talking about food I read that as "The noodles had.." lol they are growing fast! Is Rosemary the blue (Andalusian?)

Morning guys! It's nearing 5:00 AM and I've been up since just past 3... I'm not even sure why I didn't go back to sleep. At least the girls are getting out extra early today! The broody numbers are slowly rising. Three bantams and one standard pullet are trying to make babies, the eggs are infertile so it's really just a pain in my butt! :he I should be able to get some pictures of the flock later.

On a side note; did Krystal say why she's been off since late last month? Did I miss a post?
I'm wondering that too, might have to do with her pregnancy.

Congrats! Are the sultans standard or bantam?

Good luck, let me know if you need any help! Although I might not be able to reply til tomorrow...my 15 month old is telling me to give him all my attention. I tutored some types of math but if it's Calculus then I would need someone to tutor me instead lol

DS is napping, that should let me have some computer time :)

I forgot to mention this in my last post, probably because I’m still learning to cook but my mom makes a good cat fish soup. I don’t like fish as much as DH does but many relatives have complimented my mom on her soup.

Here is a video someone posted of the type she makes:

Ok i have a question for @Brahmachicken240 Myles did your brahma roo have crooked wing feathers when a chick? My one chicks wing feathers ae not flat across but each feather is turned 90 degrees so the sides are pointing up. It's the chick i thought is a rooster and since you have amazing birds and experience with them thought I'd ask ya. I'm going to try and take pics tomorrow

I Have yet to have a Brahma chick with crooked wing feathers.
Are you sure it is a brahma ? Could be a frizzled Cochin, pics would definitely help. :D

Your red roux becomes black roux!

There is a lot of flavor in the burnt bits
