You have your own views on this, but it is ILLEGAL where I live. So my neighbor was doing something wrong AND illegal. And it draws the Animal Control to conclusions that the owners are fighting chickens, Why would anyone, for aesthetic purposes, want to call attention to yourself as a...
I probably have about 100.
I love chickens!
I have D;Uccles, Ameraucanas, Rocks, Orpingtons (though I've lost about ten, mostly Orps, to a predator and haven't counted since then), Silkies, and Spitz. Each breed kind of requires that you have at least 6-8 hens at least and two roosters in...
Thanks for the reply.
I got the guy off my property by firing him for this and several other reasons. He took the bird. He likes the bird a lot as far as I can tell, and he thinks that dubbed birds are more attractive. His girlfriend cooed, "That is such a beautiful bird" right after he...
Thanks for the input. I wasn't sure what to do. I was concerned it might make them sick if they ate it, but if they don't eat it, then I can just reconstitute it so they will. Thanks again.
Has anyone fed these to chickens? If I have bugs in mine, are they safe to feed dry or do I need to mix bugs and potatoes up first, then feed them? If you've fed them dry, please let me know . I don't want to make my chickens sick or die.
12,315+44=12,359 because I added (50-6 lost) 44 Silkies. Oh wait! One hen hatched one baby, 12,360, and one hen hatched 3 babies so that makes 12,364! And I might not have counted my Spitz accidents--+6 so 12,370.
Oh goodness. I will probably want to buy the roosters if I am going to breed them. I'd rather buy some good roosters than try to keep roosters from this group. I guess I will take pictures of the blacks first (I think I have six), and then folks can see them to see if they are worth keeping...
Thanks. I will take pictures today.
I have such a hard time posting pictures on this site. It usually takes me hours for them to finally take. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for helping me out on this.
I have Silver Pencil Plymouth Rocks, and I really love them. They are active, mostly quiet, and the hens get down to business and lay eggs nearly every day. The roos tend to protect the hens and are at least alert, but I've seen them run for their own life when something threatens. In other...
I LOVE these birds. They are just a wonderful addition to your life. They are not mean or aggressive that I've seen. The roosters are even gentle. Hens are not inclined to be fighters at all.
This is an excellent family birds if you have the room. Mine are very large birds. They need more...
Frankly, I would absolutely buy from Cackle Hatchery. They have always sent me wonderful, healthy chicks. But they have more show quality birds that they send out than any other hatchery. If you want pretty birds, order from them.
Now on the other hand, I have gotten some good laying birds...
I purchased 50 silkies, but many are males. I just want one flock, but I wouldn't mind a male with them.
If I keep a male, I'd like to keep one that is a desirable color (in case I'd like to sell chicks someday).
What color is the most saleable color? I like whites. I doubt that blacks...
Is it really against the law? I'd love to report him. I don't know where he's moved now.
He took the rooster with him. I just hate it, but it is done, and I can't control it any longer. He was a beautiful rooster, but he is not a fighting one.
I'm so glad he's gone. I no longer have to...
Oops, I also forgot to mention that I have five or six Wyandottes. These are absolutely beautiful birds, and they all seem to be egg eaters. I have only one other bird that is an egg eater, and that's a Spitz. She is in a separate cage, laying eggs to hatch, so that I can sell her!
65 Silkies (because I have 50 chicks coming) mostly peeps for settlers
15 Lavender Ameraucanas peeps

5 Black Ameraucanas peeps
12 Buff Orpingtons (see some here '][/URL] )
2 White Rocks

If it comes to me owning only one breed, this is it! They are gentle, quiet, sweet birds that lay a large egg for a very small bird. There are many colors though all have spots (the main characteristic of the breed). I cannot love any color more than the caramel color of the Mille Fleurs! I...
