Ok so I let my chickens out for about 30-45 minutes every morning and every evening. I live in a neighborhood with a very secure chain link fence. This morning when I came to put the birds back in their coop, I realized one was missing (black sex link @ almost a year old). I looked EVERYWHERE...
I would but we don't have the space with a large lab and his crate, and an autistic 3 year old with high demands..They haven't told us to evacuate but I'm thinking it's coming very soon. I worry so much about them, our coop is the safest place for them I would think BUT it floods HORRIBLY...I...
We have Hurricane Matthew barreling this way (Brunswick GA) I have ten chickens in my backyard, I have a coop we made from pallets in early spring, we also have a small 6 hen house within that coop. My question is, if we have to leave for a few days what do I do what my hens? I've never left...
Thank you so much, she's out there now just pacing the fence! I'm leaving them locked up for today and I'll do away with her porch nest! I love her laying there on the porch but I can't always leave her out all day to do her business. Hopefully one day she will lay in the boxes I have for them!
This is probably a very dumb worry! My hen just recently began laying eggs a few days ago, but she only wants to lie them on my porch! Today I came out as they were locked up in coop, and saw Betty pacing the fence to be let out, so I only let her out and she ran RIGHT to the porch to lay...My...
Has anyone cut the primary feathers off of their birds? I'm having issues with them flying in my neighbors yard and getting stuck. Do you think trimming would solve this issue? Or am I screwed? It's about a 4-4 1/2 ft chain link fence. I don't want to clip if it's not going to help anything.

Could someone please help me with names of some of the darker skinned chicken breeds? My guy has got to be mixed with one of them, just trying to get an idea.
Right, just please don't say they're pure and I end up not knowing what in the world I've got! I'll be ordering all of my chicks from online next time around!
None of them mess with her...believe me or not! I'm thinking molting. Shes the only one who is aggressive, my RIR is aggressive toward my 5 week olds whenever treats are involved of course, but other than that they all stay clear of my BSL. But thanks for the replies!
Yes! I watch them closely as well... We don't have a rooster that's anywhere old enough to mess with her either. She's always the one pecking everyone else and pushing them around. Theyre all very healthy, but she's the only one who lost those tail feathers! Out of the ten we own, her and my RIR...
BSL pullet around 14-15 weeks old began loosing tail feathers a few days/week ago! She's the top girl in the coop so I don't suspect anyone pulling them out. Is this normal?
