You could also leave a 'patterned' gap in the bricks as you lay them, allowing ventilation there as well. you could even 'brick' the hardware cloth into those gaps as you build.

Are they? The 2 larger ducks are about 5 weeks old, and the smaller one is about 4 weeks.

I havent done anything about sharp edges yet, but considering putting some duct tape over them....
Well, it does seem to work decent... A mere 8 hours later and the 'water' tote is a MESS... but the chips are dry!!
