I am planning on buying a chicken saddle for our barred rock hen, from my pet chicken....would I go with the medium (7.5 x 7.25 for average chickens) or the large (9.25 x 8 for larger breeds)
I've never fitted a chicken for a saddle, so your help is appreciated!
My DH and I have started converting an old wood shed and greenhouse into a new chicken run (shed) and coop (greenhouse). This will give our girls a ton more space, and be less visible/audible to neighbors. The greenhouse is now overgrown on the outside, so it will be nice and shady for them...
I will definetly play an update when I do add a silkie, one way or another. I'm weighing all my options right now. I very much appreciate all the great advice I've gotten! Thanks everyone!
This is a great thread! You all have some amazing pups! and chucks
Heres my boston, standing stone still "surveying" the girls.... I wouldn't trust her without the fence there, but with, she just "freezes" and only moves her eyes!
My bulldog Gus could care the least of all the dogs, he...
Thanks emys.....it definetly gives me things to consider. I know the pecking order is a big deal (I've lived with up too five bull breed dogs) and grew up with horses.....so I don't take that lightly. I was just thinking that if I took it slow enough, and added lots of hiding/getaway places, I...
Wow.... So does the behaviors of my current flock at all matter on how they would accept a silkie? I ask because they have never displayed any aggresion towards each other, or my dogs. I had planned on keeping them in separate cages for a few weeks, but next to each other so they could see...

She's about 4.5 months old now....people guessed roo for a variety if reasons, comb n wattle, head shape,
......i think her saddle feathers were about the only pullet thing lol
HEN!! I've posted here a couple times trying to see what gender people thought my RIR was... and got mixed revues , but now its decided , she's a she who's become a great layer I know cos I've caught her in the nesting box a few times now

I know a good silkie breeder here in WA, and has some very nice birds.
She is on this forum and is known as ultasol.
There are a few people in this area that I would stay away from.
Thank you... I'll save that name so I can get in contact
This may be a very stupid question, and I may not have it in the right section if so sorry! Buttt... How soon should I find a breeder before I am ready to buy? (specifically looking for a silkie) I originally thought I would just craigslist or google when I was ready... But it seems to be...
