I have a crazy hen that has taken on the role of rooster, since my flock is rooster-less. She started by attacking the rake when I clean out the run, then it moved to her biting me when I touch any of the other hens. Now it is pretty much anytime I walk into the coop! I know there are...
For some reason, I cannot get a classified add to post in the correct section so I thought I would at least mention my situation. The submit button is not working!
I have a 25 week old Dominique hen in need of a new home because she has developed a very strange hate/love relationship with me...
I've only read that it is a very slow process. I wish I had the answer, because I have 2 dogs that can not be in the yard with my chickens and it is a real pain in the butt! My other thought is that it may depend on your breeds, instinctual......I have two heelers, so not good in my book...
My apologies for the delayed reply!
She has recovered really well!!! They performed a "flush" of some kind, similar to what JenellYB mentioned above. She has been on an antibiotic and a digestive movement liquid, all of which seem to be helping. Sadly, I just put her back in with the flock...
I agree they are moody before they start laying. Just haven't had one turn so mean. She breaks the skin when she bites me, stinker. I hope she mellows after she starts laying.
I have a 20 week Dominique pullet. She is not laying yet and has started biting me and challenging me like a rooster would.
Anything I can do to fix this? All 7 of my hens have been raised with lots of love and handling. It's not like I'm trying to tame a wild chicken.

I recently posted a question about help with my 18 week BJG that appeared to have her first egg stuck in the shoot. She had a huge buldge, that felt like an egg, protruding out of her rear end area. I ended up taking her to a great vet and had an xray done.
She's been eating huge amounts of...
I failed to mention, she has never layed an egg. This would be her first, and seems too early.
Is it possible she hasnt developed the right muscles yet to push it out?????
At a loss. warm baths are not working.
I have that problem with my Buff Orpington. She has a soft shell quite regularly, but they get stuck!!! Not fun....You're lucky if your hens are passing them without problems.
Anyone's advice??My 18 week old black jersey giant pullet seems to have an egg "in the shoot". I can feel the entire shape of it in her rear end. It's been there for days and days. She's eating, pooping and acting completely normal. Even squats for me. Nothing around her vent. Should I be...
I just want to comment on the "sand" part of your posting. Best thing I've ever done is convert to a sand floor!!!!! It cleans up so easy, drains perfectly and keeps everything so clean!
Good luck!
