I waited until they had been pipped for over 13 hrs and their movement & peeping had all but stopped. It was very nerve wracking helping them out.
Our first successful hatch was complete lastnight. WOOHOO! We started with 27 eggs, 2 cracked, 4 were infertile, 1 was an early quitter, 3 died in shell after pipping, and 17 hatched!!! I had to help 3 out because they were HUGE and couldnt turn in their shells. The kids & I are so excited...

There are still 20 to hatch. I can see its beak, it just opens and closes, no attempt to break out. It has very faint peeping. I wonder if I can get a tube in through one of the ventilation holes and add some more water....thanks for the idea!
I have read the sticky on intervening...but still have questions. I have an egg that has been pipped for at least 7 hours. It has made no progress & the exposed membrance is VERY white. I did the dry hatch method, right now humidity is at 60% (with all wells full & 2 sanitary pads soaked)...

I dont feel its fair for you to jump to conclusions and imply that my husband is not a safe gun handler. He knew it was a wild animal, he got close enough to see it was a cat. And this isnt a little corn field we are talking about, so there is no risk of shooting through the field...

Guess I should have added that he got within 20 feet of it (and it wasnt backing down), saw it was a cat, and then backed off to get his rifle. We KNEW it was a wild cat, just not exactly WHAT species.

It didnt show up lastnight I'm going to check the cornfield today and see if maybe we hit it the othernight and it ran off a little ways before it dropped. My boss is letting us borrow his shot gun & "special" ammo. He says as long as we can get within 50 yards and just aim in the...
When we got home lastnight hubby went out with his maglite and saw some eyes in the corn field. It was about 11:30, so it was really dark. Couldnt get a good look, but it is either a bobcat or a small cougar. He took a shot at it, but missed since he couldnt really see it. I am charging his...

yes I did, but it wasnt much help. We still dont know what is after our chickens, but 2 more disappeared yesterday, within the time it took me to run inside & help my son in the bathroom & get back out to the yard. We spread sand around the outside of the coop & run lastnight hoping...
We live in the Pacific Northwest, NW corner of WA state to be exact. We have lost 4 chickens in the past 2 weeks. The only thing left is a few feathers, if that. The first time I didnt notice until the next day (no feathers left behind), the 2nd time our mini doxie was in his outside kennel &...
I set 26 eggs monday. i candled them tonight (using hubby's LED maglite), although I dont know what I am looking at & am hoping its just too early to tell, but I dont think it looks promising. Here are a few pics I took.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I need some help. My LG will run at steady right around 100 degrees all day, but come morning when I check it, its always around 98 degrees. How does everyone keep their bator steady at night with the house cooling off? I have it in the most temp stable room of our house, but its just not enough.

Good, my daughter will appreciate that. The bator is in her room because it has the most stable temps in the house...she complains about the fan.
Our (my children & I) first hatch was a total BUST! After getting shipped eggs, which I think had a rough trip, incubator problems (so we drove them 30 mins to a broody), then bringing them home to hatch, we got a big FAT ZERO hatch, 3 died in the shell, the other 6 were rotten...yuck! I...
