Update on Marshall Mathers (the name my daughter gave this white Roo). I found the box I had brought home my TSC "pullets." The supposed breeds were written on the side. I think this one is a Pearl Onyx. Any thoughts?
Is this a hen or Roo? I bought it at TSC as a chick with 5 others from the pullet bin. I've never paid any attention or had reason to until it crowed yesterday. I thought maybe a weird hen, but doubting it.
I recently made a post about a broody hen that I finally just gave up and bought some chicks from TSC (they are doing great). I have them in their own separate coop within the larger coop, so all my flock can socialize without fear of injury to babies.
Anyway, I have another hen (Karen...
Update: All 6 babies are still alive and doing very well with their surrogate mama. She hasn't been the best mama in the past, but she sure is making up for it now! Help me keep my fingers crossed that all the babies are pullets (the sign at TSC said they were).
TSC has a chick starter kit that isn't too expensive. It has the waterer, feeder, and a lamp. They also have black totes with lids. I cut the center out of the lid and replaced it with wire with the lamp hanging above (not on it). Throw you some bedding in and you have your brooder. I've raised...
I went out to check on them this morning. I was almost sure I would have one dead from getting cold because it didn't want to stay under her at first. I'm happy to announce all 6 are alive and well (2 are hidden under her).
Thank you for your response! I did put some chick feed and adult chicken feed and some water near them. I was afraid the chicks wouldn't take to the hen after reading about ""transplants". There was one that took a couple of tries before she (they are all supposed to be pullets, but they did...
I have a hen that has been broody for 2 or 3 weeks. She's been stealing eggs to sit on, but I take them everyday. She's determined. So, I broke down and went to TSC and bought some chicks. I swapped the eggs for them. She didn't reject them but, she still won't get off the nest. Is this normal...
It's just one hen. The pictures are just different views. I bought eggs from a breeder and cannot remember what breeds she said the eggs were. There were 12 eggs and only 2 hatched. This white hen and a little Golden Comet. I think she had some RIR. Could this be a genetic variation for a RIW?
The breeds I bought were, RIR, Comets, Calico Orphingtons, and one other I can't remember. I can't even find the breeders number or even the messages to ask her.
Apologies if I seemed touchy. I've had a headache bordring on a migraine all day. They were hatched under a broody. My White Frizzle gets broody often! It could've been hers and I didnt catch it. My only Roo that was around her was my Speckled Sussex. Only 4 of the eggs out of the 12 hatched and...
I don't know if my hen laid it or not. I bought a dozen (purebreed) eggs from a breeder. As I mentioned, she may have laid an eggs without me knowing. And, As I mentioned, there were assorted breeds, so I couldn't tell you from which color egg she hatched. Legs are yellow, not much of a yellow comb
