Hens on strike after predator attack

I need some ideas. Background story, I had a rather severe predator attack, it was a reign of terror for them until I got the culprit(s). Over all it lasted about 2 weeks and I lost about 2/3 of my flock. How long is the typical egg strike if it happens? Is there anything that can be done...

tip for seperating yolks , especially if you freeze your extra eggs for later on and have to do a lo

I saw this on THRIFTY FUN (link) http://www.thriftyfun.com/An-Easy-Way-To-Separate-Eggs.html You use an empty plastic bottle , about 16 to 20 oz size and use suction to get the yolk, it's pretty neat.

I've looked at the predator id pages,

But I can't figure out what killed two hens. Left the feet, the wings and the inner carcass? Imagine a carcass picked for soup, with wings and feet, and that was what was left. I've never encountered something like this before. I'm familiar with racoons and neighborhood dogs, but not this...

    Selling Turkeys for Thanksgiving

I would have liked to sell heritage birds for the holidays, I had more toms then hens and needed to cull. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to butcher them myself, and there is no poultry processor nearby. I wish there was. I think it's because both Tyson and Purdue are large companies in...

    Are all toms jerks?

I've got one tom that is a wonderful gentleman, he helps watch the chickens and herds his hens. I have only had two jakes over the years that were downright mean. Those left quickly. It seems to me that overall, the turkeys have much more personality than the chickens. I have hand raised all...

    Chicken and turkey worming question

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and respond. I am getting ready to worm with Wazine, I know it is only for roundworms, but I am using the hit softly first then hammer later method. The dosage is higher for turkeys, which I house with my chickens. Should I worm them individually...

    crookneck treatment

Is the treatment the same if crookneck is caused by either injury, like being pecked or stomped on, and an infection? Thanks in advance Rachel

Ratsnake got one of my chicks

I've inadvertently killed more snakes than on purpose, which, is sort of sad actually. I am glad they are here doing their job. I know it's hard to lose any of our birds, I am dealing with some sort of unknown predator right now, and just today lost my grandest most amazing rooster ever, full...

    Fertile Turkey Eggs!!!! Finally!!!

I have waited and waited, and finally, my hen has fertile eggs. My tom, although really sweet, is a little slow on the uptake. Meaning, he didn't get the hang of making fertile eggs until this year, he's three. Regardless, I'm thrilled!!!! Rachel

Do I have a largefowl silkie, or is she just fat?

Your Wooley reminds me of one of the roo's I lost when first starting with chickens. It never occurred to me to weigh him, I didn't know that he was unusually big until after I lost him and learned more about silkies. Now that I know, I want another so badly. He was very very sweet natured...

came home to sick to two sick hens

thank you for repling. No the feathers are not wet in the front. And the poop isn't blocking the opening. I massaged the crop down only and tried to get them to move a bit. So far nothing else has happened.

came home to sick to two sick hens

Today two of my hens have very distended crops, thick and squishy feeling, and sticky yellow white and black poop on their butts. It's not blocking them from pooping more, but is sticking to the feathers. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I have no idea what it could be. No...
