I want those eggs because...
I love to watch my children (13, 11 and 3) press their noses to the incubator window and watch the eggs hatching, love on the little chickies, and talk to the adults. Who knew chickens could be so much fun!
I also would like these eggs because we have no pure...
These are a mixed group of eggs I recieved from a friend. These are the three oldest from the hatch (about 4 weeks old). The comb is beginning to turn pink on one or two, don't you think?
Cockerel or pullet?
#1 (and what is up with the tail of this one?)
#2
#3
These are all cross bred...
This is the end of day 23. I have had a few issues during the hatch (see: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=158902 ).
What I want to know is when to give up on the remaining unhatched eggs?
None of the last 3 are even pipped. I have others that are due to hatch in a few...
I have three out!!! Yeah!!!
Here is Rusty & Eaglet:
And no name yet:
Also, have no idea what any of these are, because got them from a friend. Not sure if anyone can tell at this age, but would love some guesses!
It is veerrrryyyy difficult!!
I found numerous things to do AWAY from home...because the waiting is terrible.
Ideas: Grocery shopping, library, take kids to playground, visit friends, pretend the incubator isn't there
Good luck!
Lori
Of the eggs that I just had hatch one of them took about 14 hours from the first crack I saw, one took about 8 hours, and one had his first crack yesterday morning when I got up at 7AM and is still working to get out.
I know it is hard, but just find something to do to keep yourself busy...
Started with 11 - 2 didn't grow, 3 hatched, 2 pipped, still waiting on other 4.
I also have another 22 (3 didn't grow/weren't fertile) ... so 19 now that hit day 18 yesterday!!!
So nose to the bator for 23 more chicks! (wishful thinking!)
Here's a couple of the little guys!
Thank you both for your replies.
That is a good perspective Nancy!
My concern is the egg turner and the carton withthe other hatching eggs the chick is getting awfully close ot the heating element at the top of the hovabator.
But he will be ok, right?
I have made a lot of mistakes with this (my first) hatch. I currently have one chick out in a very full incubator. I know I'm not supposed to open the incubator, because I have 2 others pipped and other in various stages of incubation.
Concerns:
1. I know he needs to dry and fluff, but there...
Nothing is wrong with the eggs. However, neither my SIL nor myself were supposed to have a roo. So now we are trying to decided where/which is the roo.
