Hi guys, We have currently a couple of RIR's, NHR, and White Leghorns... We are about to buy more chicks. and because of how our current hens treat each other, I figured I'd ask my "peeps" here..
I'm thinking on getting some "Buff Orpingtons & Golden Comets"... we would keep these girls together...
Ahh.. I see.. One of our hens as taken up a box for the last 2 days.. Hubby keeps taking her out.. but she is there again today...

Our run is made of chain link fencing around.. We have chicken wire across the top. It wasn't too hard to do it and I think it was about $50.00 to do it...

... It's cold here in Maine,Athere is plenty of snow on the ground, my 10 girls have a nice size run.. 16x24 which dh snowblows for them, and their coop is 7x10.. we have a flood light inside over the coop. I keep this on for about 12 hours, for egg production and warmth.. I think there is...
Really,, Mites... It's so cold out... and how can they get mites.. I've been so good making sure they have a clean coop... Tomorrow I'm going to take a pic and hopefully figure out how to post it on here... I checked them this morning for mites,, didn't see anything...

Hi Topsham,, Congrats on starting up this spring.. We started up last spring.. Hubby built a 10x16 shed/ coop/ pig pen..lol.. NONE of it is insulated.. We sectioned off a 7x10' area for the chickens.. We have 10..We started with 12, 11 layers and 1 roo... It took about 4 months and the roo drove...
Not sure why, Is it the season for them to do that? they get to go out if they want.. We open up the little door in the back of the coop to the run.. I know it is winter here in Maine,,, but they have the option to stay in or wonder out... they get all the laying pellets they want, fresh...
