I got 30, 3 day old chicks and one isn't acting right. it seems weak and when it walks it falls over, but can get back up and run until it falls over again. It eats and drinks. Iv'e been feeding it egg yolk and Vit E but it is now 6 days old and hasn't really improved although...
The eggs from my other chickens which are Amberlink and Isa Browns weigh 2.6 - 2.8 oz., the ones from the Barred and Australorp only weigh 1.8 oz on average.
I have a Barred Plymouth Rock and a Black Australorp that I got at the same time at the same farm when they were just starting to lay. It's been 4 months now and they both still lay tiny pullet eggs. I read that they are LARGE egg layers and wondered if anyone here has these breeds and what size...
I have added a Plymouth Rock and a Black Australorp to my flock and they have been laying for a couple of months, but their eggs are still pullet size. I read that they lay large eggs. Will they ever lay larger eggs or are they slow to mature?
I have had to deal with mites also. I dusted my chickens with Sevin. I also stripped the coop and dusted all the cracks, and nest boxes then put shavings in the coop and straw in the nest boxes. That seems to get rid of them.
Try putting her back at night. Place her on the roost when the others are in after dark, and in the morning the others won't notice her as readily as when she was just put in with them in the run. Some one told me to do this and it worked.
I put saddles on my hens because my Roo has made their backs raw. Trouble is: they keep coming off. I'm finding them in the run. I got reg. size saddles because my hens are ISA Browns which I think are a regular size hen. Any suggestions on how to keep them on?
I have a rooster and was told that he should not be eating layer feed because of the high calcium content. I have since gone to feeding an All Flock Feed and supplementing with oyster shell so my layers get enough calcium. I have noticed that some eggs have very thin shells. The hens are...
Today I received my chicken aprons I ordered and couldn't wait to try them on my hens who were starting to show wear and tear from my Roo. Well, the reaction I got was not what I expected. I got the apron on the first hen and she went running off and and my Roo went running after her and...
I think I know what's going on with my hen. She's an ISA Brown BTW. When I put her outside one of my other hens starts pecking her and she runs back into the coop. I think she's afraid to come out. These hens have been together since summer so I don't know what's happened between them. She...
I have a year old hen who will not come out of the coop. She sits in a nest box all the time. I have to bring her food to eat otherwise she wont eat. She appears healthy but a little thin. I don't know if she's laying or not. A couple times there was an egg in the nest box but I don't know if it...
One of my layers has been having clots of blood in her poop. Also streaks of blood on her eggs. What should I check for or do. Can't tell which hen it is, so she is acting normal and healthy at the moment.
