    Is Sylvie actually Sylvester?

Thanks everyone! I was afraid that was the case. Of course he's my daughter's favorite. 🤦‍♀️

    Is Sylvie actually Sylvester?

Hello BYC! A few weeks ago I picked up some chicks at TSC. They were labeled copper maran pullets...but I have suspicions about one being a roo. The one on the left is my question. Comb and wattle have more color than the others, and legs are definitely thicker. I got them on April 23rd and...

Silkie feather damage - depluming mites? - need guidance

I forgot to get a pic on Wednesday. (Last week of school for the kids) My buff continues to look better each day! I FINALLY see a few random pin feathers on the sizzle so hopefully I'll begin seeing some progress on her.

I wondered that as well. I'm completely in the dark about genetics myself! She is our only sizzle so I don't have anyone else to compare her with.

Two week update. Wing progress. Back progress. Pin feathers everywhere! Still no change in the sizzle....no pin feathers to be seen. Treatments are done. Anything else I'm missing?

Silkie feather damage - depluming mites? - need guidance

One week update. As you can see my buff has a nice amount of pin feathers coming in already! This is her wing. And here is her back. She had the most volume missing. And everytime I put them out she was shedding the white under feathers- just like a molt. Today that has stopped. So I...

Alright, first dose of ivermectin is on! Do I redose in 7 or 14 days? I thought I had seen both in different threads.... The girls have slowed down laying but they are still randomly giving us eggs. We will toss them for the withdrawl. Great idea about grass clippings and leaves! I will...

The flock block was just as you said - for entertainment. Something to keep them occupied besides their feathers. I did not know about the bald patch on broodies! Makes sense! 🤦‍♀️

Silkie feather damage - depluming mites? - need guidance

I spoke to my local feed store and they suggested a flock block or other boredom busters. She seems to think it may just be them picking at each other. I went ahead and got the flock block. I will hunt around on here for any other toys and entertainment for them.

Silkie feather damage - depluming mites? - need guidance

So I went back out to double check about any mites. I still don't see anything alive on them. Definitely no nits....but they do have large bald patches! It was hidden under their fluffy feathers. (What remains at least) Also, as I was handling her, carefully of course, feathers were coming...

Silkie feather damage - depluming mites? - need guidance

I did look for any bugs for evidence of bugs. I didn't see anything crawling on them and no eggs of any sort either. I'm not against treating for something if that is a possibility.

Yes, the eggs are still coming. Do you think it would be worth switching to feather fixer?

Silkie feather damage - depluming mites? - need guidance

Oh and they do have access to grass in a chicken tractor every other day or so.

It is 18%. We do offer veggie scraps from the kitchen regularly and the occasional dried meal worms.

Silkie feather damage - depluming mites? - need guidance

Hello BYC! Need some guidance on how to help my girls. I have some silkie hens who had a molt in the fall...but their feathers never really recovered. Now it's spring and everyone is trying to go broody. I do have a roo in with them and at first I thought he was being too aggressive. I did...

    Tractor supply incorrect breed

Here is my cuckoo maran! You can see her feathered feet. Not a ton of feathering. I have heard that there are clean legged and feathered varieties.

They do not look like my Cuckoo maran.....do they have clean legs or feathered? I will try and get a pic of my girl but I agree with the previous reply. Looks like barred rock to me.
