How's the OP's chick doing now? I have nearly an identical situation going on right now with a 5 week old Araucana. I found her this morning with a bloody, chipped/cracked top beak. I cleaned it off and separated her but she is not eating or drinking yet. I'm very worried. I wonder if your grew...
I don't think they're being eaten. No messes or broken shells around. No Molting either and the weather is still very good. Start of Fall in NY but still warm today was 75 and sunny. I was afraid they might be laying them somewhere outside. Those White Leghorns are the kooks of the bunch.
So...
My mixed flock of 7 hens (1Tetra Tint, 4 RSl, 2 White Leghorns & 1Partridge Plymouth Rock) have been laying for 2 months now, right on schedule. I was getting 4 to 6 eggs per day as of 2 weeks ago. All of a sudden I have no more white eggs! Have both of my White leghorns stopped laying?? Or are...
I'm on day 12 of my 1st try in my home made DIY styro incubator. 1st try ever anything! Going to attempt some candling tonight. Tips would be appreciated.
I have found that simply waving a big stick/rake whatevers handy around, yelling or banging a metal bucket with something while firmly following/chasing the roo around will work as well. Hard stares and following him around with a stomp. I had read about picking them up to show them who's boss...
I am using a DIY styrofoam cooler with a 25 watt bulb and small desk fan. I am also hand turning. I don't expect a spectacualr hatch percentage given my set up but it's great fun for me and the kids.
Just got my 16 eggs in. They're going to be all mixes. The eggs are from my own little backyard flock of 2 white leghorns, 1 tetra tint, 2 red sex links and an unknown pale orange=ish hen. The rooster for all is a gorgeous Partridge Plymouth Rock.
I have 5 month old hens (Red Sex Links, White Leghorns, Tetra Tints, RIRs) that have been laying for about a month. I want to incubate some eggs and hatch chicks since the girls have zero interest in hatching their own chicks. Yes, I have a rooster (Partridge Plymouth Rock) and many if not all...
I have 1 rooster and 7 hens and all is well so far. None of the hens are showing any signs of injury or wear and tare. He did attempt to attack me one time when I was by the nest boxes and a lady was in there laying but I put him RIGHT in his place and he hasn't shown any aggression since. My...
If they have never had access to roosts yes it's normal to just pile up on the floor. Maybe pick up a few and put them onto the roosts manually so they get the hang of it. They will eventually all roost.
I have 7 hens and 1 rooster, all the same age, mixed breeds. They are all about 17 weeks old, no eggs yet. A few weeks ago I went to lock the coop up in the evening and 1 of the girls was missing. I was heartbroken and spent the next few hours looking for her with no luck. Well in the morning...
