8/18/10 My name is Heidi, I'm trying to figure out this blog thing...... I have 4 ladies, we originally started with three chicks at Easter, one was a Roo and had to go because of Urban Zoning :( . I bought two new ladies when they were 4 months old. I am having so much fun caring for these...
what a great story! a true treasure of a bird! you could keep a little collection of all the things he gives you.... and I love that you put it on your necklace!!!!
So I really love my chickens I believe the love I have for them is apropriate for a human/chicken relationship. my son, LOVES the chickens, he is almost three and he always wants to be with them outside. sometimes he is too rough, he pickes them up or grabs them by the tail cause he wants to...
Hey all I am currently living inthe USA, but I have plans to move to the Netherlands in the next few years, and I wanted to know what my options were to have pet chickens, it there a website with regulations??? I am not sure 100% where we will be moving too, either Amsterdam or a small village...
Im in Boise, we are lucky, there weather has been mild a few rain sprits here and there..... the chickens are sooo happy. I tell them, live it up girls.... once the spring garden is planted they will be forced to stay in their coop/run. its sad, but hey i need to feed my family too.
@ the duck wisperer. you said "they're (chickens) not pets, as people tend to forget" and yet my city Code says: allowed 3 hens as pets. so it depends on your definition of pets and interpretation of the law. just say'n.
What feed stores are available to you? my local feed store doesnt carry it, but a big chain feed store (D&B supply) had a lot of it in the next town. But I am in Idaho, I have no idea what stores are in ur area. I know some people buy it online.
funny, I figured it was just peeps saying "cull" cause its sounds less harsh than "kill". esp. on a forum where many love their chickens like family.... good to know there is an actual definition
I was also curious abotu 1-2 turks for the holidays, but I only have a suburban backyard with 4 chickens.....
would this even be possible?
would the four chickens keep one turkey company?
can the turkey live with my chickens?
also is there a difference between boy/girl when getting one to...
trying to send good vibes to you all in the middle of the storm...
we are fairly cold here -Idaho- (days around freezing temps) but otherwise sunny with pretty blue skies. the ladies are loving it, almost like spring (or the sun brings the hope of spring)
but with this storm i am not sure...
She looks just like my dark cornish-
