I noticed a while back that one of the duckling's somehow injured its foot and now there's a hole in it.
It's healed completely and it doesn't seem to bother the duckling, but will it bother the duck later on? Will it get smaller eventually? I guess it should, not the size itself but the foot...
Well, the duckling passed away during the night. There was something else wrong with it. I noticed it hardly pooped, at least compared to the other shitter. It is strange because the duckling that passed away was much larger when hatched, healthier looking and he walked much better. The...
If I tilt it backwards, it extends both legs. It even seems to walk if i keep it somewhat lifted that way. I hope it just needs a rest and it goes away tomorrow when I get back from work. I'll try adding some niacin rich food just in case. I guess it could be slipped tendon, the ducklings were...
here's a photo of it's feet. the problematic one seems to be swollen.
swollen
this one is ok
I'll take a video tomorrow, but there's not much to see. Ikt's just struggling, because it lifts the damaged leg up and just hops or pushes itself using the healthy one.
Yesterday he was energetic and ran around just fine, this morning it's hardly moving and it looks like one of its legs isn't OK. The other duckling is trying to make him walk by nibbling on his (injured?) leg.
What can I do to help?
Here she is. She was again a bit annoyed by my constant filming, so she quacked and left. :D
It wasn't as hot at the time. It was after their bathing, she was still drying her wings - that's why she moves them repeatedly.
Of all my ducks, this one eats a lot of grass. Sometimes she doesn't feel...
It seems like she regularly sound this way now. Sometimes she quacks, but not often. She always had a bit different quacking, but this is not even quacking anymore. :)
The duck is very tame, I incubated the egg and she was always attached to me and the dogs as well as other ducks. I'll make a...
My duck is making unusual sounds. Beside regular quacking, she started doing this squeeking quack and loud high pitched yell.
She sometimes makes strange coughing sounds even though she is healthy. Anyone knows what that could be? Could she be imitating dog barking or some other sound? She's in...
Ok, I decided to try using duck psychology on her. She was angry and reminded me of dinosaurs in Jurassic park. Jumped around threatening anyone and anything around her when I closed the entrance into the grass bush. I knew if I can make her forget about it, she will accept the indoor nest. I...
I have a broody duck that started a nest inside a large pampas grass. She is protective and hardly leaves it during the day, but when the time comes to go into their house, she is the first to go in. I tried leaving her outside in her nest and closed the others a bit earlier, but she sion...
Giving them fake eggs won't do the trick. I tried and they didn't even bother building the nest. Today, it was quite warm again and I noticed their appetite increased. So far I found 2 eggs. One of them is laying. I think they will all start any day now.
They were not. When they start laying and begin hiding their eggs, they usually leave the flock during morning hours and hide somewhere to lay. You can easily see one is missing and it means only one thing, she's making a nest somewhere.
Today, I did find the first rather small egg. They...
Last winter, we've had a lot of snow and this year, it's spring like - yet, my ducks are not laying eggs. Previous winter, they started laying in early to mid February. I don't now what they are waiting for.
I've been thinking, is there anything else besides sun exposure and possibly food...
Tried giving the duck the feed bowl and held it in front of her. Didn't wet it or anything, just tried giving it to her. She ate. I do not know if the death of a disabled duck that passed away recently is connected. That one was always the first one to eat. Perhaps that's the reason she stopped...
It decomposes really well and also helps breaking down other stuff too. It doesn't stink at all if the ducks are healthy, it usually only stinks a bit the first week or two after cleaning and replacing bedding. I guess when the dung eating bacteria establishes, they make the smell go away...
It took months for my ducks to recover when my drake (their gang leader) was stolen. They were not tame as much as I would like at that point and they were bonded more to my dog than me. I used that to control them. Now they are all ok, yet without the drake.
Ducks have strange and complex...
