WOW! A little kindness goes a long way

Technically, I'm not zoned for peas. I'm in Sacramento. He just showed up one day and stayed. He sits all day on my porch and roosts in one of my oaks at night. He isn't a pet and I doubt my neighbors would appreciate me adding to his not-so-city voice. I just allow him to feel safe. I...

WOW! A little kindness goes a long way

This guy showed up last Spring after someone had cruelly plucked him!!! Photo on the left was a year ago ... photo on the right was yesterday. And here he is showing his full beauty today: I just wish there were a stray peahen around for him.....

So.... is this unusual? Cat and peacock

HAH! Gosh, peacocks must just be naturally curious. So funny that they spend so much time looking in windows!,

So.... is this unusual? Cat and peacock

at "weirdos' (Courts Clucks) ..... This bird also sits and stares in the living room window allllll day. Further proof I think he must not be a wild bird. And Zazouse ....those are wonderful pictures..... Just a big happy family. I love it.

So.... is this unusual? Cat and peacock

Yeah... my post yesterday had several responses that said he had apparently been grabbed by something and had most of his tail feathers yanked. I guess it was something bigger than a cat, though!

So.... is this unusual? Cat and peacock

This peacock adopted us four weeks ago. From the beginning he hasn't seemed to mind the cat, and frankly the cat (who chases anything that moves) seems unphased by the peacock. Is this normal? The two crack me up.

Can anyone tell me about this lil guy?

Thank you everyone who mentioned he'd probably been grabbed. Poor guy...I hadn't thought of trauma. :(

Can anyone tell me about this lil guy?

I've checked the local animal shelter/rescue etc... online lost and founds several times. Several neighbors think he came from a gated community nearby. No one has posted signs. I think he was maybe tossed out. For sure, if someone there wanted him, they'd hear his calls every eve and morn...

Can anyone tell me about this lil guy?

He wandered into my yard four weeks ago and is decidedly comfortable. I know nothing of peacocks. He does appear to be growing some new feathers. Right now he has those pretty "peacock feathers" only on his right side, and only few at that.

    My Chicks

Hi! This is my rather tall and skinny chicken coop. We cannot allow the chickens to free-range anymore as we have 3 Coopers' hawks that love to hang out in our avocado trees. One fatality was enough for me! So we've built "Chicken Dome"... our run. It's 24-feet x 16-Feet. Each PVC has...

...before my membership lapses ... my 'chicken dome' revisited

Very good luck kittymomma .... I hope it all works out!! I truly am no engineer, but I think if you are able to stay on top of it and it's short-term, you can make it work (barring an unexpected out-of-the-blue heavy snow) ..... and the pvc is a very inexpensive way to give it a short-term...

...before my membership lapses ... my 'chicken dome' revisited

thanks everyone ... I miss my chickies soooooooo much. The one good note is that we didn't sell that house and are renting it to friends that are taking care of the chickens. Even have two small boys that love the chickens to death ... so that part is happy Yeah .... I think the comments...

...before my membership lapses ... my 'chicken dome' revisited

YAY!!!! I'm glad someone could use the idea! It really was simple and turned out super sturdy with the pvc! By the way I secured the PVC on the wood with metal conduit clamps...like these

...before my membership lapses ... my 'chicken dome' revisited

We no longer live where I can have chickens .... don't get me started. So before I let my membership lapse and my photos become history ... I thought I would share our CHICKEN DOME pictures once more. The PVC was a super good idea and worked out really well. In brief, the run was...

    Hawk Question

hawks can kill much bigger than themselves! My hens free-ranged for two years with no problem. Then a Coopers hawk started hanging around. The hens were good at running for the hedges but one day my large Partridge Rock didn't make it to cover and the hawk broke it's neck in a matter of...

    Double Yolkers

I agree with kittymama .... as they get older the double yolks will be fewer and farther between. My EEs both had double yolks consistently when they first started laying ....4 months later, I haven't seen a double yolk in quite some time. The double yolks actually were mainly a first month...

    What is the "Egg Song"

Sometimes it's the other hens "singing for joy" for the hen that is laying. "My friend is laying ... My friend is laying: My RIR's sing and sing and sing when one of the other hens is laying .... ok... "singing" implies a nicer sound than what I hear. By golly, it is a racket and a...

My Silkie won't stop being broody ... what the heck?!

Thanks everyone! Gosh I guess I am mostly surprised that 10 weeks and counting doesn't seemto surprise anyone. I've had broody hens, but never even close to this length of time. I'll try your ideas...except bring her in the house.... OH my husband would have a fit with that I forgot...
