I have 4 bantam chicks I got from TSC who are outgrowing their indoor brooder quickly! I was going to put them in a brooder in the coop, separated from the others but within sight with the Brinsea ecoglow. Is the Ecoglow enough to keep them warm outside? Temps here are between low 30's at...
I have a black silkie I am co soldering putting with a gray. Wondering what to expect so I can make some plans.
I don't see this combo on any color charts. Any ideas or can someone direct me to a color chart that includes grays?
When we got her she was elusive and did not like to be held. At about a year old she went broody & has turned into the biggest sweetheart but I can't break her brood!
The best place to get Silkies is at the Sussex County Show in a few weeks. I believe the closest NJ "breeder" is in the south & her name is Linda @ Dreams Do Come True Farm just over an hour from Bridgewater.
I have a week old chick that was stuck to her Momma's underside with dried poo. She must have broken her wing/dislocated while trying to unstick herself or while Momma was running in a panic that there was a chick stuck to her :(
I am off to buy Vet wrap to try and immobilize it but what else...
My broody girl has been sitting, quite religiously since the 4th/5th of this month. She has been very very diligent and continues to sit & turn. I candled a week ago and took one of the 7 out; it was not developed at all. The rest looked good. It was my first time candling but there were good...
I am hoping to accommodate my need to fill a new coop. I have some silkies hatching on the 25th & hope to add some sultans as well. I have another broody mama with no clutch to sit!
I am in NW New jersey and will drive under 2 hours. Not interested in shipment at this time.
Tjis is my daughters "pick" when we got our hens so I am stuck with her but she is a mean old bird to the other hens. She is a loner and took over the Roo position in the flock when I removed my Roo for a few months. She mounted the other hens & sat guard. I guess that makes her somewhat useful...
Thanks for the links! I had read some of them but missed another in my readings.
I really do know this stuff, I think I am being a nervous nellie. I was all super cool until last night when we did our candling and saw those little buggers growing!
Thanks again for replies!
I have my first broody (for her & I) who is on day 13 of sitting on a clutch of 7.
She is in an extra large dog crate, in my garage, with cardboard surrounding the sides & woodchips.
My questions are for the hatching:
1) When they hatch, should I leave them in with Momma, or remove them to...
I recently treated my poor EE hen with Tylan 200 inject. She's back in the coop but today, one of my 5 EE stated laying and we don't know which one. Could be the one we treated and I can't find a direct answer about withdrawal for eggs. Anyone know? I'd hate to toss out first blue egg if not...
