When we first got our baby chicks in spring our boy Weimaraner would sit with his nose propped up on top of the cage and just stare at the little chickies. He'd wag his nubby tail if you talked to hima bout the chickies. If the other dog or the cats got too close to HIS chick cage he'd shoo them...
My husband would kill me if I got another dog...LOL So I think I just have to live with that inconsistency.....
He also said - when I first took The Wee One in -- that it's typical for me to set myself in situations where I'm bound to have my heart broken --- he meant that this chickie would...
Well, one can go to Atwoods just to spend some time...LOL -- like if you're bored and just want to have some fun
Actually I'm happy our closest one is about 30 miles away so it curbs me a little
...to turn the baby around and save it. It did not look good at all at first, I was almost sure I'd lose her.
Nah, the chicken noodle soup is not *that* cruel... better to eat it from the can than the ones you name, right??
Oh, and I do cat/horse/dog math, too....... seems like I need...
I've been looking through the Ideal website and I'm thinking the light/reddish colored one could be a White Laced Red Cornish Bantam???
It looks just like their baby pic
The stripes on the back are distinct!
As for the darker one... I'm still looking...LOL
Hey Hawkeye -- we used to go to Derby, KS, Atwoods all the time when we lived up there
And yup, they're spread out a little more - OK, KS, TX, AR and one in MO!
I didn't see any paper around the brooders, but then i wasn't really looking, either... just trying to pick out the chicks is...
NovaAman - Thanks!! I realized I had a pretty good pic for the calendar two days after they quit taking the submissions... and it wasn't that one...LOL
Oh well!!
Yep, I take "stabs" at breed & final color. The three first ones came from Atwoods (ranch store) today - so I'm guessing purebreds of some sort?
The last one can be/probably is a mutt - but color guesses are welcome
The light one is mainly yellow, and the lighter spots on the back are in my...
So my baby that hatched a week later than the others couldn't be left with her own peeps and she got some new friends today....
Here are the pics -- what are we??
1. Light chick - yellow with reddish markings, face appears to be very light - clean legged
2. Dark chick - all colors...LOL...
Hey!
I just came back for an update!
The Wee One was very tired and sad for a full couple of days, then started slowly perking up. On Sunday when I pulled it from the mama and the rest of the babies I started giving it a little bit of electrolytes hoping it'd keep it going. I don't know if it...
Thanks, Erica.
The last time I went to check on them the little one was shivering and cold again, and getting run over by everyone else. So, I intervened, and have managed to get the little one warm again. If it makes it overnight and looks more alert and lively I might get one of the others...
Yeah... I had five chicks hatch a week ago. I didn't remove the remaining eggs as the mama was staying put on the nest pretty much, she has only started to move around a little in the last couple of days, still mostly staying on the nest.
So, this morning I went to check on them and there was a...
Illia! Cool!! Thank You!!
I've tried to figure out the genetics and the possibilities through a Dutch website, and even I understood that I'd be having lots of black...LOL
However, since I have a hen and a roo that I'm not sure what their "standard" color is, it was hard to see anything...
Illia - you're absolutely right!!
I didn't mention parents because between my four hens and three roos, all of whom are different colors and four different breeds, I don't know who were the mating pairs for each egg...
Japanese Black Mottled Roo
Light Brahma Roo
White OEGB Roo with some faint...
I was thinking the mottled roo would be the daddy of most....LOL He was all yellow, though when he was little, with just one black spot on head...
Thanks for the video suggestion - I just watched it The little guys are a lot like mine, except they're more yellow where mine have faint to no...
