    Hen with bare butt (Images)

We have a leghorn hen that is approaching 10 months. I recently noticed a lack of feathers on her butt. It's not messy or bloody, but I'm worried. As far as I can tell, she still lays eggs, hasn't lost weight, and acts the same as usual. No other chickens in the coop have this problem. After...

    Is this an issue?

Update: good news! After operation buttermilk, she seems to be acting normal. If something strange happens again with her, I'll refer back to this thread. Thank you for the advice!

    Is this an issue?

Thank you! I'm a bit hesitant to take action, though. I watched her again, and after setting her in the shade, she did freeze up for a bit, but began exploring after a while. Should I feed her buttermilk?

    Stella!

I got Stella the white-crested black polish from a friend, Peep-chicken on here, and I think she's a silly chicken well worth sharing. We originally got her so she could be one of our low-ranked hen (Candle)'s buddy, but Candle slid up the pecking order. When the two are together, Stella...

    My rooster saves hens!

I got a gorgeous silver Sebright named Rain. He was getting irritating and constantly attacking me. However, keeping him was a great idea... A few days ago, I went to the chicken coop and there was a huge hole in the side of the fence. There was obvious raccoon stuff everywhere. Terrified, I...

    Hens Clearing Their Throats

The hens are probably trying to crow, or something. It happened to me once. Yes--hens can crow. I'm not sure, but if they're not getting hurt or anything I wouldn't worry. -Midnight.
