Boy this is almost as much fun as the chickens. It's like coloring with a big box of new crayons.
I have lost the whole flock of chickens to predators three times but I keep trying. This time I have frizzles, silkies, splash cochins, and a couple mixed up hens.
I figure as long as I have...
The yogurt is definitely worth it, even if it isn't too "cheep". The entertainment value is priceless. I mixed starter crumbles with it and stuck it on the sides of the tub the chicks were in. It sounded like hard rain in a metal building. It was a little neater that way but loud. When I put it...
I'd hate to bother the now sleeping chicks and a whole house full of mean mommys so I guess I'll wait until tomorrow to try this trick. This sounds like a real winner. With a whole chicken house full of silkie babies I can't wait to see what's what. It beats waiting until spring anyway.
I would be interested in the Wyandotte Chicks as I lost my 4 Wyandotte hens recently and have been looking to replace them. We are also in tri-cites area, I was just trying to figure out which direction you are Cherokee National Forest is sorta a wide range.
Oh, here's hoping the daughter will be interested. We live in the northeast corner, near Bristol, and have a hen that needs a feller. I'll have her get in touch with you if she can take him. Mickey (the hen) would be tickled to have a hubby that looks like her.
The buffs are beautiful! I have several dark Silkies, 1 white, 2 blacks, a splash and 2 cukoo roos. But no buffs. I had 8 babies hatch this weekend and another hen still sitting on a dozen. I'll be glad when they all hatch, but seeing yours makes me want a buff.
Thanks to all for the help and advice. I wish taking him to the vet for a "no holds barred, whatever it takes" treatment was possible, but unfortunately it isn't . The vet would give him dexamethasone and sub-cutaneous fluids. We can do the fluids at home, and TLC will have to cover the rest...
Our farm name is Patchwork Farm. It has a dual meaning. We inherited one piece of land that was hubby's family farm from the 1800's. We were lucky enough to be able to buy two other pieces, so we are putting the farm back together like a patchwork quilt. It also seems we are piecing and patching...
One of our cats was scared away from home 3 weeks ago. We found him yesterday and he is a rack of bones. He's about 12 years old and seems ok. Just tired seeming and weak. How do I go about putting his weight back on? I've offered him tuna but he doesn't have much appetite. He's eating cat food...
Oh, as a side note. We took care of the weasel problem (it snuck through a knot hole in the floor). New floor, siding, etc. made the white house weasel-resistant ( I would NEVER say weasel-proof, for fear of jinxing myself). The white house is home to Speck, the aforementioned BR roo.He takes...
We are in upper East Tennessee (near Bristol) and would love to have the BR hen. We have a BR roo that is a sole survivor of a weasel attack in the chicken house and we are looking for hens for him. Get back in touch is you still have her. With gas prices as they are we can't afford to go far...

Is there a way to log out completely from the forum? Mom uses my computer and hers to get on the BYC forum which is no problem but when I won't to log on it will not let me.
I have deleted cache, cookies everything and it'll eventually log her out but when I click log on it logs on mom and not...
I'm glad I'm not the only one who had probs with this. We've always told Mickey she was a "duckle" since we were completely ignorant of French. We knew that probably wasn't right but Mickey doesn't know. The three new ones daughter got over the weekend will be "du-clays" Now we know. Thanks to all.
Something about being "cheap cheep" or frugal makes me giggle inside. It's like cheating almost. Doesn't hurt anyone, and really helps out sometimes. The people I work with are amazed sometimes at the tricks I can pull, and I'm the caretaker and they are the ones with degrees and make the big...
We need to try the tiny clip thing. We tried a tiny horse braid band for the roo and he thought he was dying. He went completely limp in my arms and we (daughter and I) just looked at each other in horror. When we tood the rubber band back out he shook his head and walked away. I never thought...
