I love this forum!
Here are some pictures of my chickens and coop.
Say hello to my little friends. I have one each of austrolorp, BR, brown leghorn, and golden campine.
Here's my coop. I built it over about a two month period.
First egg baby!
The is from my austrolorp...
I have a hen who's been broody and I want to put some fertile eggs in the coop for her to sit on. The temperature during the day inside the coop gets up into the upper 90s. Is it too hot for her to hatch eggs?
Thanks
Do chickens eat cicadas? I just read in the news that this year there will be a bunch because of the 13 year cycle. Maybe I could put some in the freezer.
I've never tried this before, but my year old buff orpington was broody, so I went to a chicken auction and bought some RIR eggs for her to hatch. I only put three in the nest. Is there anything else i need to do? Does anybody know the success rate of doing it naturally without an incubator...
No. I guess she could be broody. She's kind of a strange chicken. She had a cold when she was 3 months old and she's undersized. She lays eggs regularly but they're kind of off white instead of brown and they have white specks on them. I think she puffs out her feathers to make herself look...
One of my 8 month old buff orpingtons puffs her feathers whenever i come around. She's also losing some feathers on her belly. Otherwise she's fine. Still laying almost every day. Any idea what's going on?
I had them on the medicated feed, but I guess she might have gotten it anyway. I'll check the TSC on my way home from work today and start using corrid (?). Thanks for your replies.
I have my three chicks in a big rubbermade tub. They're 5 weeks old. Yesterday morning one of them had diarrhea with blood in it. She doesn't seem too sick or anything. I didn't take any pictures of her diarrhea yesterday, but she's still has it, and I took some pictures of the droppings...
Great links. Thanks! I'll keep them in the brooder for a couple more months then ease them in. One of my hens is very gentle, but the other can be a bully.
I have three 3 week old chicks. And I have two 2 year old hens in the coop. When should I move the chicks out to the coop? I currently have them in the house in a rubbermaid bin.
Thanks
This is the exact same thing that's been happening with my 15 month old campine. She had a high fever about a week ago, and I took her to a vet. They gave her antibiotics and the fever went away, but now she's not eating again. Before she got the fever she wasn't eating or drinking and she...
When I got home from work today, she was doing badly. Unfortunately the only vet I could find that cares for chickens had left for the day. I don't think she'll make it through the night. I suppose she was egg bound. When I got her to walk a little, her butt was hanging low and she was...
I'm having the same problem with my campine. I had one question. How do you get them to swallow the liquid from a syringe? do you actually stick the syringe down their throats?
She hasn't laid an egg in about 3 or 4 days. I've done some reading on here and I'm going to give her a warm bath just in case. Unfortunately she seems more sluggish today than yesterday. She just stands in one place and doesn't move. I think I will take her to a vet tomorrow if she doesn't...
I came home to check on her during my lunch break. She's still breathing through her mouth, but now she's pooping. It's pretty runny, but at least it's semi-solid. Still worried about her lungs though.
When I let my chickens out of the coop two days ago, one of them was really sluggish and her comb was drooped to the side. So I brought her in and have been keeping her in our laundry room for the last two days. Her poop was watery with a little white and green mixed in. Not much solid poop...
