Here's the reason it is killing us to move. We put our heart and soul into this coop/run, and built it on a 2-level flat deck foundation. It just has to stay.

Oh thank you SOOOO much for such great responses. I can feel the love here! I'll report in on what I find out from the Realtor and will definitely be asking some of you for more information soon!
Thanks for the links too!
Helloooo Colorado! We currently live in Anaheim, CA and are moving to Colorado Springs (COS?) ("The Springs"?), possibly in October, with all the hubbub of selling our place and buying another one. In fact, we're getting ready to drive there to look the area over and get familiar with all...
We are having the same mystery here. Just got back from a 2 wk cruise, but we had pet sitters 3x daily plus overnights, for chickens and dogs. NOT ONE EGG has been laid and we can verify it has been 5 days for sure. We have 10 chickens, plenty of room, big house, all healthy. Good food...
I love the videos of our new chicks, and wanted to share the youtube links.
The first video is "Pot Pie Dozing in Hand" - Chicken Pot Pie, only 2 days old, and I never saw anything that adorable and trusting.
The next one is "New Chicks get a day in the sun" - our 5 new ones get to try...
I've only raised 12 chicks, so I don't know how strange she is, but several times we thought she was DEAD.
She stretches her neck out and lays it on any surface in front of her like a pillow and then goes to sleep. It's very eerie.
She's 4 weeks today and is still doing it. Ever seen this?
Hi - well the title says it all. Should we be worried about her? She's only a year old, and a this is an every-day occurrence now. She seems fine. A few of these eggs had some floating stuff, a bit stringy and we were afraid to eat those.
They have been getting oyster shell for a few weeks...
We were pretty clueless on this, too, but we are SO GLAD we put the sand in. We dug out the area, 8'x10' about 8" deep, and we ended up having 2 yards of sand (or they called it 3 or 4 "scoops") which was quite cheap, but we sweet-talked the guy into moving it all into the run FOR US!
Anyway...
Hello, we were on here a lot last year when we got our first 7 chicks. They are big and strong and happy little layers, and we can legally get a few more since we enlarged the footprint of the coop.
So here are the 5 new babies, hatched Monday and delivered Tuesday from mypetchicken.com...
Welcome to Ferrari Farms Blog. We are not a farm, but merely city dwellers who have made a large rectangular backyard into a little “city farm” over the last 18 years. I love working in the dirt and doing projects together, and my husband loves to build and invent little things. Well, since...
The more "stuff" in your coop/run, the more poop-y surfaces to clean!! We took the ramp off to pressure wash it, and the next thing we knew, the hens were just fly-hopping right up and right inside.
No more poop cleaning on that ramp! It never gets cold enough here to worry about, so until we...
Thank you for your thoughtful replies. I will put hay out of my mind completely then. We use pine shavings in the coop and just love it in there.
Yes, we used DE in the sand though maybe not enough - just a few cupfuls, I think. More next time?
After scouring the area thoroughly, we bought...
Okay, well I think we've been taking everyone's opinions above our own and have made a strategic error. I hope you can make some suggestions for us.
We really dug the idea of having sand in the run. But in building the coop/run, we listened to everyone's worries about the heat and dryness in...
SO JEALOUS!! How did you wire it, is there electricity nearby or a long cord? Will they peck at the wire - hope not!
We go out so often and especially it's fun to see how they decided to team up each night, and where they are perching. My chicks just haven't decided yet. We have to get a...
LOL, I know, I am often accused of "shortspeak" because even though I think I'm giving tons of detail information, I often confuse people by assuming they have already read all my posts...sorry.
Yes, we have a 6" deep bed of sand in the run, and 5" deep pine shavings in the coop. But this...
Okay, well whose idea was it to paint the ramp up to the pop door red - MINE. And who added the artistic touch of WHITE cross pieces for TREAD --- MY DARLING HUSBAND.
I can wash off most of the poop once a week just to make the ramp not sooooo horrible looking,
But what's the deal with the...
