...that carry lav. There is some good info on the seb lovers forum in the color genetics section. So much to learn, I wish I could retain more of it! * this year in one pen I have a lav boy over one of those blue girls that is supposed to carry lav, so we will have to see how many we actually get.

You can use a little sandpaper to scrape off excessive mud too. I don't wash mine, but it does make it harder to see inside in the beginning if they are still kind of dirty. Barb- my yard would be the same way, but we're putting straw down constantly. Can't believe how much we're going through!

I don't have any grass now either, and goslings due in a couple weeks. Going to start some wheat fodder trays in the house so it will be ready for them.

    sexing adult Sebastopol geese

That is a REALLY big weight difference, maybe one of them is stunted? This time of year the males are getting a little (or a lot) aggressive, hissing, and craning their necks. They come between you and the females, and almost seem to be telling them not to talk to you. If both birds freely...

Gorgeous! I am setting my 3rd (set) dozen eggs tonight. I was really surprised that the first group only had one dud, despite the super frigid weather and the time it takes me to get to the eggs late in the day. Yay!

Colored Sebastopol Gander with swollen jaw

Any chance he got bit by a snake or spider? The hotness makes me think it is infected. Geese can have baby aspirin. I have used about 24 crushed baby aspirin to a gallon of water, make sure that is all they have access to for a day and it will help a little with pain. This is what I did when a...

Sorry, Chickery-Do. I know the geese here are extra thankful today- finally warmed up enough to bring out the hose and fill the pools- several times! Have a great day, everybody!

Does anybody else raise Call Ducks? I have become so addicted to them! I have several extra Sebastopols from 2013 hatch that I am looking to sell or trade for smaller waterfowl or building materials. They are really nice geese, I just have way more than I need for next breeding season.

Decided to sell a few of my buff Orp pullets if anybody is looking. They are about 7 weeks. Willing to trade 4 of them for a new cattle panel. I need several of the panels, but its too hard to get them home.

That oddball is a blue Orpington squeezing her fluffy butt in there. I had just dumped a bunch of grain in a hog pan. Its funny though- sometimes I get this view from the middle when I am trying to walk to the feed bins. Such a silly feeling to have geese stepping on your feet.

Worming is a good idea. If you use DE on a regular basis you don't have to wait two weeks to eat the eggs again. You can put her on some high protein game feed for a while and see if it helps her put some weight on too. It s a little more expensive, but if you only have a few birds it doesn't...

Sorry about the marans- wow! How beautiful. I am a huge fan of the lavender variations. I love how you get better feather quality than the solid lavs too.

    Ancona Ducks

Last I heard they were not an APA breed. A friend that I sent some eggs to in Maine took some ducks to a show and they were kind of surprised to find that out.
