I agree with AngieDawn. At that age they probably don't need a heat lamp inside, so start weaning them off..maybe during the day for a couple of days and then all together. At that point they'll be fine outside and won't need a lamp. I have used a low wattage lamp in the coop - mostly to get...
These cuties hatched on 4/18 and are a week old now!
There are some pure wheaten Ameraucanas in the group! All are from a wheaten Ameraucana rooster over Ameraucanas, Olive Eggers, Black Copper & Cuckoo Marans, Leghorns, Golden Comet, and a Light Brahma and Dark Cornish. The females will...
So glad your hen is doing better - that's a good sign when they make a quick recovery! As far as cleaning, spraying down with a diluted bleach solution may be all you need. I'd suggest doing a quick google search on respiratory diseases and seeing what clean up is recommended. As someone else...
I tend to agree with Fishkeeper on all that was said. Another thing is that it's very important for a sick bird to drink and adding strong things to their water may keep them from drinking it.
VetRX is the only thing I would rub on their nostrils if they're wheezing and congested (follow the...
That stuff is very, very contagious and can also be airborne. It went through here early this year. It can be a few things - some mild and some very serious. What you're doing is good and VetRx will be great when you get it. Keep the hen warm, dry, and clean and give her good nutritional...
I don't use DE. I use poultry dust from the farm store. If the mites are bad enough that it's causing crusting around the vent I want to get it taken care of immediately. :)
The clumps of eggs and small yolks are normal for any hen that is currently laying. Tiny clumps of eggs are normal for any hen - laying or not. What is not normal is the yellow liquid and definitely eggs with shells. With our internal layers - or whatever similar issue they're having like...
They need to be clean. Store them pointy end down in a carton and at room temperature. They're good to sell locally for up to a week. Here's what I do:

How long has it been? I'd suggest leaving the chick in the incubator until it gets it's legs under it. It could also be that it has some problems and that's why it couldn't hatch on its own. You'll have to wait and see.
This won't answer many of your questions except to say that I agree with you that you made the right decision! I've left internal layers hang around and they end up completely wasting away and their abdomen ends up full of yuck. It looks so miserable!
I've never actually found eggs with...
That's what it looks like to me. Don't use gasoline. I've soaked them in warm water with epsom salt and GENTLY scrubbed with an old toothbrush. After drying, I coated them with some sulphur stuff I bought on Amazon. I also think bag balm or probably even vaseline is also fine. Here is a...
Yay! If she's eating on her own that is HUGE! It sounds like you're on the right track and things are looking up!
From your earlier comment about feeling bad....DON'T! I've been there many times along with lots of us! Sometimes it turns out well and other times it doesn't. But having...
Yes - the chick probably isn't eating and drinking on its own because of either trauma or injury. Be careful giving water with the eyedropper because it's easy to force water into the lungs and that can be a death sentence (pneumonia). I like to hold the dropper to the side of the beak and...
