    fuzzi's Chicken Journal

When I did mine it was not as tough as I thought it would be. The bed is 10x20. I just removed one section of old wood at a time. No more than I could replace with the concrete in one work session. After I removed a section of wood, I used a flat edge shovel along the area to make sure it...

Making Lemonade [Selective Culling Project - very long term]

I guess I'll do a little cha-cha as I continue the weeding of the strawberries. What will the chicken's think of me? Supposed to see some tomorrow night... maybe.

What are your frugal and sustainable tips and tricks?

I used cloth diapers with my daughter. Her bottom would stay red if I put store bought diapers on her for more than 1 day. I agree with all of this! 100% cotton is a natural plant product. It will breakdown fairly quickly in the environment. Just don't use a synthetic/cotton mix. That will...

    Your 2025 Garden

I've been doing a lot of watering and weeding. Working on cleaning up the strawberries. Still have more to do here. Hoping for rain maybe mid week. Plants are filling out in the garden. A good soaking rain would really help. I found a sweet potato sprout in the garden. I wonder how many tiny...

    Bobcat Tried My Chicken Run

This cat is used to the sounds and movements coming from your property. They get comfortable with routines. He feels safe moving in closer. Try changing the music to a station with "talk radio". Human voices talking most of the time. Very different from music. Make sure the hot wire is on. I...

    Your 2025 Garden

The squirrels decided I could have 1 fig this year. It was sweet and tasty. Maybe next year I will have enough to make a batch of preserves. I've got to remember to put tops on the cages. I found a good guy when I was doing a bug search in the garden. Green anole in the collards.

    Roosters

It can work but depends on the roosters and the amount of space they have. Most suggest having at least 8-10 hens per rooster. This is to prevent over mating of the hens. Over mated hens can end up with featherless backs or injured.
