Poor baby! Cursed plastic!
Tarps are dangerous too when they begin to deteriorate. Yrs ago our Silkie Violet got hobbled from long stringy tarp pieces. TG I saw her walking funny before she got hurt from it.
Now I get after DH to throw out any tarp that begins the slightest wear! We constantly...
I know zero about roo's... but my input is wear a pair of safety glasses 👓 to protect your eyes if you decide to cuddle Mr. Chips... just in case Tassels does a weird thing like fly at you. Just never know what a bird may do to protect her young. That Tassels is a real tenacious determined lady 💕.
Your story is very similar to some of the ones related to me from a few Polish owners a few yrs ago. I knew Polish were a bit skittish from vision impairment... Silkies too... however, Silkie owners who also had experience w/ Polish insisted the Silkies would surprise me at their resilience as...
So many issues we flock owners never counted on when we started w/chickens. I never knew how much we faced w/ vet bills, vet medicines/&supplies/euthanasia, yard modifications, coop/run expenses, handicapped chicks, broodies, hen-i-tentiaries, quarantines, Mareck's, Avian Leukosis, Fowl Pox...
Many European Polish lovers keep Polish-only flocks ~ too gentle to mix w/ standard breeds maybe? They seem too gentle to be around standard breeds... it was that observation yrs ago that kept me from mixing Polish into our standard flock even tho I was fascinated by them.
Silkie owners were...
After reading everyone's issues w/ Polish, game birds, roo's, & standard size birds... I'm glad we got Silkies as our final flock. I agree... Silkies don't go around beating up other birds ~ they only pick on each other if one is in a bad mood & they move very fast out of each other's way that...
We have them around here. As a kid my family nicknamed them Daddy Long Legs spiders cuz they are all legs w/ a tiny body. Don't know what they're really called but they're fairly harmless.
We never see them outside (probably easy for the hens to catch) but once in a while we find one in the...
A friend of ours rescued a loose Jack Russell ~ same day it got into his chicken run & killed all 5 of his hens. Hope this JR is good. Love the heart... what are the odds that mark happens?
We have two 5-yr-old Silkies too. One nice thing is they usually stop laying & should never go broody again. Although, once we had a 6-1/2 yr Silkie Mini who still layed but she passed from ovarian bleeding tumor ~ her reproductive system was always messed up... I'm surprised she lived so long ~...
Hurray for the trap!
DH uses store-bought cheese-filled crackers or real cheddar cheese cubelets to bait our Kensizer. Odorous foods/flavours attract them. We catch 1 to 3 rats weekly. I'm curious about how many we'll get in winter...
They may not always like it... but our 6 girls know exactly what "go to bed" means!
Ginny is the hardest one to get to bed. She doesn't like the ladder so we built her steps using bricks.
I appreciate paying sponsors & advertisements but on my laptop the ad's super-impose over the posts so I'm seeing them doubled over each other. I have to hit my refresh button each time to refresh the page back to normal. Earlier today I had to remove myself from BYC for a while cuz videos...
