Your story is very similar to some of the ones related to me from a few Polish owners a few yrs ago. I knew Polish were a bit skittish from vision impairment... Silkies too... however, Silkie owners who also had experience w/ Polish insisted the Silkies would surprise me at their resilience as long as I only integrated them w/ gentle temperament flockmates. I only had two bully standard-size hens in 14+ yrs which we gave them chances to straighten out re: bullying Silkies, but finally had to rehome the 2 bullies. Otherwise Silkies got along well w/independent White Leghorn, gentle Blue Wheaten Ameraucana, independent Blue Breda, & good-natured Dominiques.

A Cuckoo Marans & very large Cuckoo Breda were very mean for no reason & were the two we sadly had to rehome to maintain a safe flock environment. We loved all our birds but sometimes a stinker arises & has to be dealt w/ properly.

Went to the dr this morning. She ordered some more tests to figure out what is going on with my neck. I had several months of relief after my tonsils came out, but now it's the front of my neck bothering me.

Everyone seems to be doing well this morning, even though Fenix was very confused at me following him around with a ladle. I needed to get a urine sample for his vet He doesn't seem sore though, which is good.


Louis and Vuitton slept in their crate inside the playhouse we're making for kiddo. We didn't get very much rain last night thankfully so they were warm and dry. My biggest concern with potentially splitting the flock is getting 3 heated waterers working this winter. Logistically a bit difficult unless hubby and dad run the wires they keep saying they will.
But I can easily just take the nail out of the wall and drop the door seperating the tall coop and run extension from the main coops and run. Or put the divider back on the tiny coop, but that will have to wait until Delft is ready to put her kids with the rest of the chickens.

No. I’m pretty sure the crop is not the primary problem. I’ve been able to clear many crops over the years. This does not seem impacted nor sour, just slow. Like she has a blockage further down. Not too long ago I had chicken with a blockage further down and she went into complete crop stasis. She died and I assume it was cancer. Might be the same thing here.

I'm so sorry! are you able to do a necropsy? Maybe that will help you know what is wrong.

I love his poof markings! I can actually figure out where his eyes are, which I generally can't with Polish.

Another rabbit hole today:

Tylosin can be used as an eye ointment to treat conjunctivitis. I noticed that Daisy’s eyes were cruddy this morning. I will apply some of this today when I get home.

“The soluble powder form of Tylosin can be mixed with sterile water (mixed 1:10) and used as an eye spray to aid in the treatment of birds with conjunctivitis (particularly if caused by Mycoplasma).”

Vuitton seems rather perky today. Louis is leaving her alone, he tried to preen her crest and she freaked out. But then a bit later he was preening her beard and she was okay.
