Welp, they really tore into Vuitton. She is on the back porch in the hospital crate now, eating and sleeping. She's all ruffled up, should I try dosing her with children's tylenol or ibuprofen? She weighs over 500 grams according to my food scale.

Hattie has never been broody or even interested in it. Chickens remain individuals. Breed trends, sure. They are the not laws.

Have to say, I am thrilled those Orps haven’t been broody! Dealing with Misty and Whiskers is enough fun. At least the silkies don’t go around beating-up the other chooks.

It’s been my experience with Mr P that they will pluck them and pick at them unrelentingly. You may find that she will not be able to run with them until she moults again. Or never if they learn to pick her all the time.

Look how long I have had Mr P in the Summer House, it’s been over a year now. I am hoping he can get out with the main gang around Christmas once he is all finished this moult. But this means I will then have to keep Clyde and/or Mr LC locked in the Summer House. I know I cannot run the Roos together, Mr P will fight them.

At the moment Clyde and Mr LC get along - mainly because Clyde puts the run on Mr LC. And really it’s just a matter of rotating the Roos around in the Summer House and the main part of the Barn, the big issue is whether or not those brats continue to pick at Mr P once he is done moulting and has his full feathers in.

If Laverne and her chums continue to pick at him then he will never be able to run with them again. Which is fine as they run with the other Roos anyways.

That’s 1/2 a kg. You can give a little less than the .25ml dose of the ‘infant’ Tylenol (the 80mg/ml stuff).

I did this with my wee Polish and they are still alive (well they were this morning at any rate!), twice a day. Poor wee kiddo, do you have a friend you can put her with? It’s also supposed to get really cold after tomorrow for you and I - can you move her somewhere warmer?


Edit: ummmm what I mean with the twice a day bit is that you can dose them twice a day.

The chicklets are alive more than twice a day….. sheesh sometimes I wonder about the English language…

When the blood dries I will spray some food coloring over top and put her brother in with her. I can split the runs in two, the hens will be mad they'll lose their tall nestboxes though. But I know the other silkie mixes picked at her too, we'll have to see who is nice after I get blue on her head.

Too young for more than a moult (Matilda did that too), and with the golden breast feathers, I think it's more one of the juvenile moults.

I went back for another look....twice....because of the tail....and kept eyeing Matilda for it when she was sporting it.

After reading everyone's issues w/ Polish, game birds, roo's, & standard size birds... I'm glad we got Silkies as our final flock. I agree... Silkies don't go around beating up other birds ~ they only pick on each other if one is in a bad mood & they move very fast out of each other's way that we've never had any bloody issues TG! Having only a 1/2 dozen hens/no roo's seems to be working also. Love these gentle yet hardy personality fluffballs & the eggs are decent size too
