Well I don’t yet have any roo experience. All I have is an overly energetic cockerel whose fate I am still weighing.
He will take blueberries from my hand - but I am convinced he would snatch a blueberry from a fox if such an opportunity arose. He is very fast when it comes to blueberries.
He appears from nowhere and almost immediately disappears again, and somehow where once was a blueberry there is no longer a blueberry!

I'm a latecomer, so I'm not sure how you got this guy, but he's gorgeous. As a person who can't have roosters, I love seeing those belonging to others. And my Speckled Sussex hen has such rich colors in the sun - I can't imagine how beautiful a SS rooster would be.

Do you have any polysporin eye ointment? you can put some of that in her eye.

Just put a small "pea" size amount on your finger and dab it into her eye as best you can. You may have to help by pulling the eyelid down. That is what I am doing with Raven the dingaling.

I swear these broodies are driving me bonkers! Just waiting for those Orpingtons to go broody.... At least Polish are not known to be overly broody!

Funny story . . . I have 10 hens, including a buff Orpington. The only one to go broody so far was one of my Polish and she was a terror. It was hilarious and disconcerting at the same time since I had only had chickens for 7 months at that point, and the broody was 8 months old at the time. She stole eggs constantly (because I only let her have fake ones) and lasted 23 days. It was actually impressive.
Meanwhile, if you ask Google, Polish "rarely" go broody. Huh.

All of the fish tank pictures make me want to set up another saltwater tank. Well, except for the time commitment & work...lol

It was hilarious and disconcerting at the same time since I had only had chickens for 7 months at that point, and the broody was 8 months old at the time. She stole eggs constantly (because I only let her have fake ones) and lasted 23 days. It was actually impressive.

My Phyllis went broody 3 times. Polish can do so and it can be shocking when they do.

The real key to all of this was Mrs BY Bob singing to them. They were so calm when she was singing.

Joy even closed her eyes and rested.

Once, looooong ago, my friend and I decided to try ecargo. They were sold in a can at the grocery store. We both enjoyed sardines, shrimp, etc so we figured that the escargot would be great also.

They were like eating the eraser on the end of a pencil! So she chucked them outside to her chooks. The hens pick at them but wouldn’t eat them either.


FYI - her chickens were my first taste of having chickens. And she also had lots of different egg colours.

I think maybe the fact that you are escargot from a can was the problem. I have only eaten escargot once. I had taken a daughter in law on a bonding trip and we were eating at a nice restaurant in Paris (they're all nice there actually), and she wanted escargot because she said it was delicious. I had to go along. The escargot mostly tasted like hot seasoned butter. I don't think the snails themselves have a flavor. Maybe we could save ourselves a lot of money by just eating some warm seasoned butter? Anyway that's my one experience with snails.

Oh my gosh, I love that video!

The pouring forth is an every morning....unless it's still half dark when I have to open it. Then it's 1......4 minutes later another.....then 3 more....then the rush. I swear they're saying "GO AWAY! I'M NOT READY TO GET OUT OF BED! FINE! I'M UP! DON'T EAT ALL THE SUNFLOWER SEEDS!"

The ones in heavy moult are either first or last out. The last out seem to say "GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT! LEAVE ME ALONE! Ahhh! Now I can enjoy the pellets in peace, while they're fresh." Then they head out to lounge with the rest.
