I have 5 hens who have started laying about 2 weeks ago... One of my hens is an easter egger and she is definately the hen in charge!!! She hasnt laid any eggs at all. Is that normal? I had heard once that if you dont have a rooster one of the hens will step up to the plate(which Mable has)...
As a rule I never trust feed store employees ever since I was inquiring about DE one time and this employee who HAD chickens told me just to use the pool grade DE...and they actually had it STOCKED for that purpose...No matter what I said he would not believe me about how toxic that is to...
After what seemed like forever!!!! Yesterday we actually received our first one...but the girl laid the egg while perching and it broke!! So then I revamped the egg box and today we had 5 eggs waiting this morning!!!! I cant wait to get home and see them!!!!
Well since I am out at grower pellets do you think the layer pellets would hurt them if I started it a bit early? I have to have to go buy another 50lb bag of grower for only 5 chickens.... Wish me some eggy thoughts...maybe when I get home there will be an egg waiting!!!!
They are 22 week old red sex links...I just thought they should be laying buy now...I bought layer pellets yesterday but have not given it to them yet...SHould I wait then?? I started offereing crushed oysater shells about a month ago and it hasnt been touched all that much by them...
I will try to be more patient!! It is so hard though!!!! I have to go buy them new food tonight though- I made a boo boo.
They are still on grower food and not layer food. So that is probally contributing to their non egg laying selves...
I personally love Meyers...I made a small order of only 5 and all arrived in great shape and are thriving today. I will definately be ordering more birds and supplies from Meyers this spring...
Well my little chickies will be 22 wks on the 6th. Time sure has flown by. Still no eggs though...I know it probally has alot to do with the cold winter-especially since we do not have lights inside the coop. But I am sooo anxious I can barely stand it!!!! Everyone send me some eggie...
at night...I have to put them back in their coop every night so far.
last ngiht I figured they would be able to do it themselves- so I want out at 9pm to check on them-and they were still in the pen-all huddled together trying not to freeze to death!!!!!
What do I do to make tthem do it...
I would see what happens- my dog bit a hole in one of my chicks a few weeks ago and she had a BONE popping up- I did nothing but keep it clean and keep her seperate and she is FINE all with no antibiotics!!!!
Well we finally finished it!! We moved the girls is yesterday-they seem to like it. We just had to put them back in the coop tonight cause they havnt "got it" yet!!!!
It still needs some things done it it-like paint!!! And our run is a temporary run-we figured temporary was better than nothing!!!

I'm thinking maybe your birds crop is full is well becasue she is eating??? It is normal for the crop to fill up- if you think it is impacted take away the food overnight and if her crop is still full in the am then you might have a problem.....
