I have a quick question... after how many days of not laying should I be concerned?
I have 2 chickens and one is laying while the other is not (they lay different colors so it is easy to tell). They are the same age - born in February, both free range and eat the same layer feed. I read the...

Too funny!
Thanks everyone! Australorp was my guess after looking through the breeds too. She disappeared from my yard this evening, so hopefully her owners had a scare and will take better care of her now... or she will come back and I will fatten her up! If I knew who owned her, I...
Here are some face photos through my window. The chicken is sleeping on the window ledge outside.
It's definitely black, I just wish I had gotten better photos of it. I will try again tomorrow to capture a better one.
So today I saw an interesting sight. I pulled up to my house and there was an extra chicken running around! We don't have a fenced in yard, and my two girls roam around freely, so, on the flip side, any old animal could also walk up. However, I've never seen this chicken before today. It's...
Could have a double yolk!
My EE recently laid a giant egg. I would estimate about 50% larger than her regular eggs. We cracked it open and found out it was so big because it had two yolks! She went back to laying regular size eggs after this one.
Here's a picture for comparison:
I have two chickens, an RIR and an EE, and one duck. Both chickens are 23 weeks old, and are both girls as far as I can tell. My RIR, Buffy, was recently found after 8 weeks missing, where she was apparently just roaming the neighborhood. My EE, Hoot, had a lot of alone time while Buffy was...
Love your pictures! We just got a pool so maybe I'll try to get my girls in it with us. Hoot runs from the hose though so I'm not sure how close she'll get to the pool, but we'll see! If I'm in there I might be able to convince her. I think it'd be so fun to swim with them!
Thanks everyone!
Here they are this morning, reunited:
She doesn't seem to have any interest in leaving again. I really do think she just got a little lost before, and couldn't find her way back. She's not emaciated thin, so thankfully someone has been feeding her. I'm just not sure what...
You could try to put her in some warm water, like a bath, and that may help her pass it. The warm water can help loosen things up for them... I know they do this for chickens that are egg bound or have underdeveloped eggs stuck.
She was running around the walkways behind backyards in the condo complex - not in anyone's yard but right outside one or two back gates, and I saw her sitting on two different porches. There was a cup of water sitting out for her, but no food. She looks pretty healthy, maybe a little thin for...
It's 115+ here, so I know it can be rough outside. I only have one, and I let her in the house sometimes to cool off. She HATES water and jumped on top of a 6 foot wall last time we tried to mist her. Just make sure they have plenty of shade and lots of water to drink! Some nice cool ground to...
Here's some background to the story: In Feb, my husband and I adopted two one-day old chicks, which turned out to be an RIR (Buffy) and an EE (Hoot). [There was an issue of me thinking Buffy could've been a roo, she had some comb on her pretty young, but it hadn't yet turned red- I still call...
Ok, thanks! I have some out for her but she doesn't really want it. Do you think laying the soft egg could've been painful and maybe that's why she's acting strange?
I'm not sure. I would think they can be ill for long periods. But it does seem strange for her to act this way for that long! I hope someone with more info comes along! Definitely look through the forum though; I have found much of the information I need with a bit of searching, sometimes faster...
Does she have any other symptoms? Is she eating/drinking/pooping normally?

I'm definitely not an expert, but it could be many things. I had a hen do that who had cocci, and...
...a little sneezy these past few days. I live in AZ so it's been HOT and dry. We got some rain and her sneezing lessened, as did mine and my hubby's.
**Added: Her crop was really large and soft feeling a couple days ago, but I monitored it and it did go down after she hadn't been eating for a...
