Currently, I have two drakes and one is aggressive towards the other drake. What drake should I keep to breed with the hens that I have? The one that is more dominant towards the other drake since he will be a better protector or the other drake because he seems nice from my novice perspective...
I think the person who had them before kept them in a smaller run with chickens so that makes sense. Today was one of the first days that I saw them become more bold in exploring the run itself and beyond. So that’s good news!
Do I need to show my five month old Khaki Campbell ducks where the water is? I filled a 40 gallon stock tank with water and none of them ventured to go inside it. This is their second day in their new home. The first day they just stayed in their covered run and didn’t venture much.
Right. I understand that term as well. I worded the question poorly. I just think the correction and mockery could be off putting to someone new. Fortunately I know the difference. In my haste I posted the question without thinking it through. Thanks.. I regret posting this thread.
Would anyone not recommend installing a tap light for my chicken coop? I need something that will be battery or solar powered to light my coop up in the evening to make it more attractive for my hens to roost there as the sun sets. I don’t have an outlet close enough to run a extension cord to a...
@Sweetheat
That’s an excellent observation. I made the same observation since I posted this thread and I have since added two more roost bars. So now there are three total roost bars for the chickens inside the house. They predominantly use only two of the three roost bars.
Would it help egg laying production with my teenager chickens (12-17 weeks) to add an older 4 year old hen in the mix? My neighbor who also raised chickens stayed having an older hen will help flock dynamics and improve egg production. She explained it as having an mentor almost to the young...
She’s a red sex link.
I haven’t considered calling the breeder back to exchange birds. Maybe I should do that first. I haven’t considered rehoming her because I don’t want to pass the issue on to another flock.
I rather not have to cull her but I don’t see her integrating into the flock, at...
I recently introduced a 4 month Pullet to my mixed flock comprised of 3 month pullets after a quarantine period. Unfortunately, she went beyond the normal pecking order behaviors and was seeking out each bird to give them a firm peck. She sought out one of my pullets and pecked then poor thing...
It’s a dirt one with buried hardware cloth. I’ve been using the dried grounds. It’s really nice. I get the grounds for free. My cooo smells like a coffee roasting room.
Would anybody be able to comment on whether or not I could use coffee grounds underneath straw bedding in my chicken coop and run to provide for better compost material and improve the overall aroma of the coop?
