    What drake to cull?

Currently, I have two drakes and one is aggressive towards the other drake. What drake should I keep to breed with the hens that I have? The one that is more dominant towards the other drake since he will be a better protector or the other drake because he seems nice from my novice perspective...

Just added 4 Khaki Campbell Ducks to the Flock

I think the person who had them before kept them in a smaller run with chickens so that makes sense. Today was one of the first days that I saw them become more bold in exploring the run itself and beyond. So that’s good news!

Just added 4 Khaki Campbell Ducks to the Flock

There are other water sources available in the form of buckets and several 1 gallon water dishes by the feed stations

Just added 4 Khaki Campbell Ducks to the Flock

Do I need to show my five month old Khaki Campbell ducks where the water is? I filled a 40 gallon stock tank with water and none of them ventured to go inside it. This is their second day in their new home. The first day they just stayed in their covered run and didn’t venture much.

    What gender are these?

Right. I understand that term as well. I worded the question poorly. I just think the correction and mockery could be off putting to someone new. Fortunately I know the difference. In my haste I posted the question without thinking it through. Thanks.. I regret posting this thread.

    What gender are these?

Thanks for the distinction. I made this statement with the assumption that they are all females under a year. How would you have asked the question?

    What gender are these?

I hatched some Olive Eggers, Cuckoo Marans and a Welsummer on the 6th of October. They are 7 weeks old today. I will try to get more photos tomorrow.

    Tap Light for Chicken Coop

Would anyone not recommend installing a tap light for my chicken coop? I need something that will be battery or solar powered to light my coop up in the evening to make it more attractive for my hens to roost there as the sun sets. I don’t have an outlet close enough to run a extension cord to a...

New Pullets socially distancing - Should I be Concerned?

Yes, they all sleep on the roost bars now.

New Pullets socially distancing - Should I be Concerned?

@Sweetheat That’s an excellent observation. I made the same observation since I posted this thread and I have since added two more roost bars. So now there are three total roost bars for the chickens inside the house. They predominantly use only two of the three roost bars.

Adding an Older Hen to Flock of Pullets?

Would it help egg laying production with my teenager chickens (12-17 weeks) to add an older 4 year old hen in the mix? My neighbor who also raised chickens stayed having an older hen will help flock dynamics and improve egg production. She explained it as having an mentor almost to the young...

To Cull or not to cull?

Is that normal for sex links to be aggressive?

To Cull or not to cull?

I will give her some more time from the flock as you’re recommending. Thanks!

To Cull or not to cull?

She’s a red sex link. I haven’t considered calling the breeder back to exchange birds. Maybe I should do that first. I haven’t considered rehoming her because I don’t want to pass the issue on to another flock. I rather not have to cull her but I don’t see her integrating into the flock, at...

To Cull or not to cull?

I recently introduced a 4 month Pullet to my mixed flock comprised of 3 month pullets after a quarantine period. Unfortunately, she went beyond the normal pecking order behaviors and was seeking out each bird to give them a firm peck. She sought out one of my pullets and pecked then poor thing...

    Coffee grounds underneath straw bedding

It’s a dirt one with buried hardware cloth. I’ve been using the dried grounds. It’s really nice. I get the grounds for free. My cooo smells like a coffee roasting room.

    Coffee grounds underneath straw bedding

Would anybody be able to comment on whether or not I could use coffee grounds underneath straw bedding in my chicken coop and run to provide for better compost material and improve the overall aroma of the coop?
