All the fall crops are growing well, harvesting plenty for me and the chickens. All of the garlic that I planted on the 1st is up between 2-4 inches, coming along perfectly and ready for heavy mulching. Won't do that til we get our first frost though. Best news of all, not a single vole hole or...
Waiting for the afternoon to cool off enough so I can put on long sleeves, hat, gloves, boots, etc. Trying to sift out the compost for around the fruit trees, but the mosquitoes are in huge swarms and relentless! I need layers of protection from these killer mosquitoes. Maybe a hazmat suit...
Yes, I clean the whole coop every day. That's why I have sand, no bedding to stir, flip over or through or remove ever. And it only takes 10 -15 minutes to clean a 12x14 coop. The run? That's deep bedding except for right under the roost, and its a nightmare to keep clean. Both sides permanently...
When I retired I found I couldn't stand not working, so took a part time job at Wal-Mart cashiering. I had so much fun at that job that I stayed with them for 10 years. Can tell you that if you're good to them, they'll be really good to you. Show up on time, don't call in sick, do the job you're...
I planted my garlic 6 days ago(?), and the grocery store cloves are up already. That was fast! The expensive Italian garlic I ordered is not breaking ground yet, but I'm sure I planted early enough for them to have a good root system before winter sets in.
I might like that. I grow radishes mainly for the chickens, along with tons of other greens. This year I grew purple radishes and they are spicier than others I grew, great in potato salad. Bet they'd be wonderful pickled, thanks for the idea!
What a smart way to plant! I just dug a couple trenches in the front and back of each of my beds, and popped the garlic in there. That way the middle area of each bed is clear for planting next spring. Also over planted the garlic in the hopes of repelling voles. I've been plagued by them the...
I'm not the most graceful creature, lol.. have broken jars in the freezer before. I place the frozen cubes in a freezer bag and just pull out however many I need at the time. Safer for me, and ill never again have to clean out a whole chest freezer because I was clutzy
