General Question about Albendazole + Molt

As far as I know the fretting on the feathers will do not harm, they are just an indication that at some point the hen(s) were ill/in poor health. Unlikely due to Albendazole, I do not know of any info regarding not using it during molt due to feather quality issues, only Fenbendazole (Safeguard).

Yes, that's correct. Keep me posted.

Lethargic Barred Rock- not eating or drinking

Yes, you can still give her the Calcium for a few days to see if it helps. Olive oil is o.k. if that's what you have. Personally I and others prefer coconut oil. Give it in small chunks, let her eat it instead of trying to syringe liquid oil. It's safer and lessens the risk of aspiration...

Wryneck and Vitamin E for ducks?

Thank you for the link. It's interesting. I think the product would be o.k. if you were looking to just add a small supplement E and Selenium to the feed for the whole flock. IF my math/calculations and reading of the labeling is correct, you only add 1gram of the product to 4.41-6.61lbs of...

Young Polish Hen, suddenly letheargic, bright green liquid stools

Is she new to your flock? If so, is there a way to get a fecal float to see if Coccidiosis is an issue?

7 m/o Hen Heavy Breathing, Fever?

When you finish deworming and treating for Coccidiosis. Give some probiotics for a few days. It wouldn't hurt to give her poultry vitamins 3x a week for a couple of weeks after the Corid. I'm glad she's hanging in there. Sunshine and digging through leaves sounds wonderful. In case you...

    VetRX not working

Welcome To BYC I'm sorry your Rooster is not well. What symptoms are you seeing? If he has respiratory symptoms, then seeing the Vet is a good idea. While VetRx may temporarily elevate some minor symptoms much like Vick Vapor Rub will for humans it's still just a remedy. If he's...

Lethargic Barred Rock- not eating or drinking

She may be having a hard time expelling an egg. Try giving her 300mg Calcium Citrate+D3 once daily for a week to see if that helps. Work on hydration and see if she will eat a little wet mushy feed.

Help, something really wrong with my EE

    Mixed grit and oyster shells

I like to keep grit and os separate, but if what you are doing seems to be working out just fine, I don't really see a need to "fix it". And yes, I think chickens can differentiate between the 2. Do you have a link to the article? Thanks!

    Preventing Mites and Lice?

You'll get a lot of opinions. I spray my coop/housing about every quarter with a Permethrin based poultry spray. If needed, I dust birds with a Permethrin based poultry dust. Rodents and wild birds can be vectors for bringing in External Parasites, so do what you can to keep the rodent...

    Worming/parasite control

Welcome To BYC If possible, take a sampling of poop to your vet and have them perform a fecal float to see if your flock needs deworming. If that's not possible and you still want to deworm molting hens, it's best to use Albendazole. Albendazole dosing is 0.08ml per pound of weight given...

Sinus Infection? Swelling of the Face.

You can wait a little longer if she's doing o.k. otherwise. Keep the eye cleaned like you are doing. Baytril would be the next step I'd think. It's a stronger antibiotic and will treat most bacterial infections.

Is this dry skin or a yeast issue?

Getting some testing through your state lab would help you i.d. some of the problems you are having. With this information, then you'll know what you are dealing with and can come up with a plan to treat or manage the flock. If you have Mycoplasma in your flock, birds will be carriers even...

Wryneck and Vitamin E for ducks?

If it were me, I'd go to Walmart, CVS, grocery store, etc. and pick up a bottle of Vitamin E and B-Complex. Generic brands are fine. Look for 400IU Vitamin E (180mg) and "B-Complex" or "Super B". Make sure the B has Thiamine (B1), Riboflavin (B2) Niacin (B3), usually there are several B...

    Lethargy, thin, wobbly, progressive

So approx 22weeks old. Do you have any other Crested Cream Legbars? Are they laying eggs? How long have you been feeding Feather Fixer, Henhouse Reserve, etc.? Feather Fixer is a layer feed, I believe Henhouse Reserve is too. If she's not in lay, then I'd switch to her a chick starter or an...

7 m/o Hen Heavy Breathing, Fever?

I'm sorry to hear about Quail:hugs If you still have the body, sending it for necropsy would be a good idea. Understandable if you have already taken care of it and had a burial. Is the other pullet having a hard time breathing? If she were mine, I'd consider treating for worms and...
