Here's what they look like today (well pics taken from a month or so ago). Looks like the winners were the Copper Maran and Barred Rock, with Brendan the rooster. The other three were silkie mixes- Figgy, Fran and Beth. Two buff orpington and one black maran.
Wow- you have me beat st 9 broody hens at once. Im thinking of different ways to approach
Me too! I love this group and webpage- best thing I ever found to help my flock thrive.
I have played swap the chick too many times before too! I currently have 5 hatched, living with 3 different mamas in large dog crates. My plan is to take the mamas away (as sad as that makes me) and put all the chicks together so they can grow up as a pack in a week or so when they're bigger.
Thats what I figured, but wanted to check just incase it was in a funky position.
I should have mentioned I have 6 broodies. So the one who went Rouge and started this mahem got it taken away form her this am. I put it under a sweeter hen who had been kind to the wee one all day.
Hi there-
Mama hen crushed the egg (day 21). I only can assume she crushed it because the shell is cracked all over the place. She also was eating a different egg this morning. The baby is chirping away and moving its leg. I cant tell if the membrane is stuck to its skin though and am wondering...
Hey there! I also have all three of those breeds. I gave seen my lavender orpington (Plum) lay an egg- it was lighter brown with white speckles( top row, 2nd egg from the right). So beautiful! I also suspect the RIs lay the brown eggs with darker spots (top row 3rd from the right).
Obviously no...
No- no antibiotic on hand. Ive made an appt with the vet for Thursday- soonest they had. I highly doubt he'll make it until then, but I'm hoping! Doing my best to keep him comfy and fed.
Hi there-
I've got Charles here- who today didn't leave the coop only crowed once today. He also had a bunch of hard poop stuck to his bottom feathers. I soaked him in an Epsom salt bath for about 15 minutes- he just chilled in the water and didn't move. I rubbed all the poop off his behind...
Hi all,
I have a year old Black Copper Maran rooster (I've had him for about 6 months) and I discovered he has a large portion of his underside that is bright red and really weird wavy type looking bumps on parts on him.
All other hens and roosters are doing good- no signs on redness or bumps...
Hi there,
Perhaps I should be posting this in the emergency thread? Except, there is no obvious immediate emergency.
My hen, Olga, has been acting weird for about 2 weeks now. Im not sure if she depressed (is this a thing w/ chickens?) I've locked them in their chicken run for the past 2 weeks...
Hello,
We have 3 roos- one black silkie, one white silkie and a black copper maran. Rachel my RI red decided to lay on a batch of eggs, the other girls (buff orpington, barred rock, black maran, lavender/grey orpington, RI reds) took advantage and laid eggs for Rachel to hatch. So far I have a...
That would make sense, very instinctual girl. We took her in a day after her first batch of 10 babies were born. They're about 4 months right now. She mated with my parents rooster when they all got evacuated for the wildfires near us in August and now we have 5 more Irene babies. This batch are...
It was full this morning. I isolated her and she has access to clean water only. Ill feed her wet food tomorrow. Is it ok to give her coconut oil today? What about elecrolytes or probiotics in her water?
I also noticed she has a wound on her crop. I assume from it scrapping on the ground when...
