    Essentria IC-3

    I read in Hobby Home Farm magazine that Essentria IC-3 is an all natural pest conrtol that is safe for chickens and people. Have any of you used this product or know anything about it?

    Injured Hen

    Thanks. I can't imagine how it happened. Just breaks my heart.

    Injured Hen

    I didn't think to take one before we taped it up. I've never seen anything like it. It was cut from the top and separated at the cartilage.

    Injured Hen

    My poor little hen has broken open her middle toe. It looks to be separated at the joint and is, of course, very swollen. We have cleaned it, covered with neosporin and gauze, then splinted with a trimmed emery board, wrapped that with electrical tape. Right or wrong? Any hope that she will recover?

    Who laid this?

    These eggs were in the girls' nest box. Top row eggs are the size of extra large grocery store eggs. The next super sized eggs are from a little black chicken of unknown parentage. So who laid the last one?

    Daisy MIGHT make it, and now Chicklet is sick, too! UPDATE! :)

    My heart goes out to you. I wish I had answers for you, but I don't. I've lost a hen that way, too, and would love to know what happened. Again, I'm so sorry your girls are sick.

    help = somethings wrong

    Thank you. They do have a fan. I have put her back in the coop where she's safe from predators and I will put ice in their water. Other than that, I guess I just have to wait and watch.

    help = somethings wrong

    Thanks for your reply. She seemed fine earlier this afternoon. She isn't taking water or food, not even grapes (a favorite). The other hens seem fine. This hen is normally very chatty, but she's not making a peep now. I tried putting an ice bag under a towel for her, but she moved away from it...

    help = somethings wrong

    I have a grown hen who is moving little, not eating or drinking. She is still standing, but has one wing hanging low. I don't feel any breaks, not does she react to being picked up. I don't feel any egg. Her beak is hanging open (it's hot) and trembling. Any ideas?

    Bantam egg layers

    My daughter and her hubby raise Call Ducks (miniature ducks) and are considering adding a couple of small (Bantam) hens for eggs. Can they be raised together? What breeds would you recommend?

    16 Laying Hens, No Eggs ??

    I was told that chickens need 14 hours of light a day to lay. I installed a floodlight with a timer, and my girls are busy making pretty eggs again.

    Chicken Story

    I was sitting on the patio, just hangin' with my girls, and reading the Parade Magazine. Bernice (RIR) kept pecking at my magazine! I would shoo her away and she's be right back, pecking at my magazine. I finally looked to see what was on "her" side of the mag, and wouldn't you know...a picture...

    New Chicken owner

    Yes, they are quite normal. They will slowly get braver and venture out. All of our chickens have gone through the same process. Now when you open the coop door, you'd better stand out of the way because it's a chicken stampede.

    Snakeaway

    Agreed. I have killed them before when they had the bulge of an egg inside them, but I'd prefer to avoid the situation if I can. Most we have relocated. I don't know of any other critter that takes eggs and leaves behind no broken shells. Am I wrong?

    my own fault, and boy am I lucky! still, a question...

    Gwen may very well be fine, other than a few missing feathers. Labs have a "soft mouth." That is why they make such good birding dogs. They can carry a bird without damaging it. Just keep an eye on her for a few days. The feathers will re-grow in a few weeks. There is not much danger of...

    Thanks for the help. Can't stand snakes and hate losing eggs to them.

    Snakeaway

    Has anyone used SnakeAway? Is is harmful to the chickens? Will they try to eat it?
