we put a small pvc pipe in the brooder box for them to pratice roosting on, a little silver pie tin for them to peck at and hop on, and a sandwich baggie box for them to jump on and hide in. Keeps them busy all day, lots to do.
The wife also give them a little bit of cottage cheese...
Ours attack slugs when tossed to them, but then again our 4 girls eat everything out back that moves and is tiny. The Barred Rock wont eat worms that are tossed to her. She just looks at them and lets the others take them away. We keep wondering if she is a Veggie-tera-hen!
The wife decided to see what the chicks would do with a little cottage cheese today. After a little pursuading from her the chicks quickly went from not knowing what to do to playing games of keep away. It provided almost half an hour of amusement for her and our 6 year old. We will try yogurt...
well i had 2 things in mind
#1 weight!! wanted it light for tractor style thats movable so we used 3/8 plywood and tons of 2x2..
Done bought
- 8 sheets if its cut smart at $8.00 a sheet (home depot) .
- 8 2x4's at $1.71 aa piece (same place but $1 on craigslist in tacoma
- around 15 2x2's...
there are ways. remember insulation not only keeps hot in, but also out. if its insulated then it will stay cool longer in the day. Use the kind thats silver coated, its like bubble wrap, shiny side out. and metal roof thats colored right will reflect a ton of heat too!! white is your best bet...
our biy is almost a year, and he got snipped last month and turned into a kitten again after that, every morning we wake up and he is layin on the top of the brooder, wishin he could swat em, watch the kitty!
we got our 4 girls a week ago and now have 15 eggs
but,,, havent eaten any yet but tomorrow its over eazy with bacon MMMmmmmm I'll let ya know how they are lol.
we are guessing they were days to a week when we got them, that was 5 days ago. man they growin fast! so we bene keeping the brooder around 90-95..
how long do they need this temp?
yes it worked very well. hope that helps someone. i always found that worked in lizard tanks so why not, just keep some heat from escaping and you can adjust it but covering less or more
