I put mine 6 feet apart. Here is a way to keep predators out... The wire on the walls of the coop is 1/4 inch hardware wire, then I dug inside along the ground at the walls 1 1/2 feet down and 2 feet in, put the wire from the walls down and in, then added road base on the wire packed it down...

One of my hens, the boss gal, has laid two eggs today. Once in the am, and one in the afternoon. I thought she was goin broody, cause she was sitting on empty nest after I took the eggs. The BLAM! Another egg!. Is this normal?
Here is a COOL way to shell the eggs.. put a teaspoon of baking soda in the water, stir, add eggs. Bring to a boil. Set in ice bath.. ./
Now the cool part... break both ends off, just a bit.. 1/2 inch on both sides. Put in your hand, close your hand around the egg, not too tight, but tight...
I have two very cool inside kitties, well behaved. A nice coop outside with girls going on 2 years now, no rooster. There are some healthy cuuuuuute babies I want, pullets I am told. And it is too hot outside 100 +. Does anyone know a good safe way to raise them indoors safely with the cats...
We dunked her in a pail of sun warm water for 10 minutes. She was good for about an hour, then right back to sittting on nothin.. I was told to seperate her with food and water for a couple of weeks. Gonna try it starting tommorrow.
If she want's to be a mama, wouldn't you think she would have the itchin for a rooster? We have never had one.. so where does the mama thing come from? Hereditary? We also have to move her during the day, so she can get excercise, or she stiffens up...
