@Mylied — you had asked two three weeks ago if my wing sexing was accurate. For the first time I am glad it was not accurate. When I wing sexed them at 3 days old I only thought I had 1 male but turns out I have a lot more males. I don’t have an exact number but when they turn 1-2 months I’ll...
I am setting eggs today, will this still count as a March hatchalong? (I’m doing the EHAL). I have decided to weigh my eggs because olive eggers are too dark to see through except their air cells. So I figured I’ll weigh them instead.
That is awesome to hear! I figured this would actually give a lot of parents a free test run at homeschooling especially for those that had been thinking about it but needed the push
When the easter annual hatch a long starts are we migrating over there or just working both threads since it’s conditional to when you set eggs to enter? This easter one will be my last one for a while, probably not for the year but for a few weeks to months.
They’re all at least a week to two weeks old now. Decided to transfer em outside and I need to get started on a coop. Not all are pictured. Also need a tarp to put over em at night for extra protection against predators.
9 hatched on my day 21
And 7 hatched on day 22 so you have time.
Can’t believe how fast chicks grow!! I need to start planning a coop for my chicks. Their brooder is still good but I just know in a week or two it will be too crowded for them
TSC has or had some EE straight run chicks and I let my husband’s aunt know, hoping she’d get some because my OE roo was not been fertilizing the eggs (I haven’t checked if he has now). And then I’m noticing a drop in egg production from all the OE hens 🤦♀️ so I’m wondering if I’ll even be...
@AgnesGray
I don’t have a green thumb. This year I’m working on my green thumb so sorry I have no advice there.
@FortCluck
Sorry to hear about your squash. My entire garden two years ago was a disaster. Not to mention this past year’s. I’m doing more research this time around.
@CluckNDoodle
I give my dog garlic when I can. Didn’t think to give it to my chickens. I have some leftover minced garlic I was gonna toss in the compost. May just toss it in some scrambled eggs for the chickens! Thanks for the tip.
Today I was weed pulling around my fence line so it can look nicer.
Yesterday we planted carrots, corn, tomatoes, jalapeño peppers, watermelon and some other stuff I think.
I want to start letting my chicks run around outside, it’s getting warmer. Maybe I’ll see about making them a moveable...
I will be MIA for a bit (planting and watching chicks and preparing for spring), I still do check in every now and then. For sure once the annual hatch a long starts I’ll be on more often checking in to see how the eggs are doing.
My olive eggers are not laying daily all of a sudden. So I...
I saw some of my olive eggs were fertilized and got excited until I realized they were a couple days old while the ones I cracked were yesterday’s and those were not. My husband has said he never wants to know if the eggs he’s eating are fertilized 🤣
I think he’s on strike cuz I penned him up going on two weeks now and he’s used to free ranging. After this month’s incubation they will be going back to free ranging.
Not sure if birds work the same as mammals (Pigs are mammals right 😆). Is their sense of smell strong? Or are they more...
I shall ask my husband if he can catch him tonight or maybe tomorrow since it will be chilly tonight. I’ll let everyone know how it goes and if it worked.
Hopefully I’ll know within a month but for sure by 3 months I’ll know.
So I just checked my OE eggs and NONE are fertilized!! I’m not surprised. The girls don’t like Chili (my OE roo) so great! I may not be hatching OE for the annual hatch a long. Is there a way to encourage mating? (No...
