I have a question for everyone. Do RO chicks need anything special added to their diets? I have adult birds, and last month I set a dozen eggs. Only nine ended up being fertile, and 7 hatched out of those 9. All the chicks were doing fine for the first week, then they started dying. They...
I just recently got some russian orloffs and I absolutely love them. They are so sweet and gentle, and their looks are stunning, completely different than any other chicken. Here are some pics of them.
This is my welsummer rooster. Of course his name is Cornelius, after the Kellog's rooster!
And this is Big Daddy, one of my Russian Orloff roos. He is my favorite rooster, just as sweet as he can be!
Ok...the wait is excruciating! Talk about a lesson in patience. Woke up this morning to a pip...now 3 have pipped and there is lots of rocking around...I WANT THEM TO HATCH NOW!!!! LOL
Well, day 16...almost time for LOCKDOWN! I can't wait! Candled last night and no quitters...gosh I hope all the little guys come out, but I know that's highly unlikely. I am very pleased with our first hatch attempt so far, though! BTW...candling copper maran eggs is HARD!!!!!!
I would use the styrofoam as a hatcher if there is enough room for all the eggs that need to go on lock down at the same time. Without the turner it should hold quite a few eggs for hatchin purposes.
I'm addicted! Just went and picked up another incubator and set 41 more eggs! French black coppler marans, gold and silver sebrights, mille fleur d'uccle, and japanese bantam.
Help...My chick keeps falling over backwards and can't get back up. It's a 2 day old polish we just picked up at the farm coop. Also he has a small rupture just below his vent that is black and hard. I am assuming unabsorbed yolk sac. We tried a band aid splint but he still can't stand up...
Candled last night. As I said before this is my first time incubating...and seeing those little heartbeats was soooo exciting! I don't know if I can stand the wait. I am getting impatient to see my first babies.
Whenever we let our sebrights outside to free range for a little while they will lay an egg. It never fails...every day that we let them out they lay an egg.
Ohhh....I'm sorry that the egg of your deceased bird isn't developing. :( I think I will candle mine this evening. It will be my first time....so I will probably have to do this a few times before I really learn what to look for.
